Wolves talks to sign Tottenham player on loan – Need to cover full Spurs salary

Wolverhampton Wanderers have opened discussions about a possible loan move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonín Kinský as they search for solutions to their ongoing problems at the back.

Reports suggest the 22-year-old has been added to Wolves’ shortlist ahead of the winter transfer window, with initial talks already taking place between the two Premier League clubs.

Wolves began the season with José Sá as their first-choice goalkeeper, but his form dipped early on, leading to Sam Johnstone taking over the role in September. Johnstone then started 11 league matches in a row before Sá returned to the starting lineup last month.

Despite these changes, Wolves have continued to struggle defensively and currently hold one of the worst defensive records in the league, having conceded 41 goals so far. Only West Ham have allowed more goals, which has increased the pressure on the club to act.

Because of this poor defensive record, Wolves have explored the idea of bringing in Kinský on a temporary deal. Informal talks have already been held with Tottenham, but progress has slowed due to Wolves’ difficult league position.

Sitting bottom of the table and trailing 17th-placed Nottingham Forest by a wide margin, there is a growing feeling inside the club that survival this season may already be slipping away. As a result, attention is quietly starting to shift toward longer-term planning for the summer, unless results improve very quickly.

Kinský is currently Tottenham’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Guglielmo Vicario and is viewed as a reliable backup with strong potential. Spurs are not keen on losing him midway through the season, especially given the importance of squad depth during a busy schedule.

Any loan deal would only be considered if the interested club agrees to cover the player’s full wages, a condition Tottenham are unwilling to compromise on.

This demand has already created problems for other interested sides. German club SC Freiburg have reportedly spoken to Kinský’s agent about a possible move, but talks are not expected to progress after they refused to meet Tottenham’s salary requirements. Without full wage coverage, Spurs are unlikely to approve any temporary exit.

There is also interest from Turkey, with reports claiming Beşiktaş are monitoring both Kinský and Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen as they assess their own options.

With Wolves and Freiburg hesitant and unwilling to fully commit financially, it remains to be seen whether Beşiktaş will step in with a concrete proposal that satisfies Tottenham’s demands.

For Wolves, the situation highlights the difficulty of making meaningful changes during a struggling season. While Kinský could offer fresh competition and stability between the posts, financial constraints and league uncertainty have stalled any immediate move.

For now, the goalkeeper remains in North London, with Spurs holding firm on their terms and waiting to see if any club is prepared to meet them.
