Tottenham Hotspur are once again being linked with a significant move in the transfer market, with reports from Spain suggesting the club are leading the race to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. As pressure continues to mount on several areas of the squad, the goalkeeping position has quietly become one of growing concern in north London.
At present, Guglielmo Vicario remains Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper. The Italian arrived with a strong reputation and showed promise early on, but his form has dipped in recent months.
A series of costly mistakes have raised doubts about his consistency, especially in high-pressure moments. While Vicario is still trusted by the coaching staff, it is clear that competition for his place has been lacking.
Antonín Kinský, signed last winter as cover, has yet to seriously challenge for the number one shirt, leaving Brandon Austin as little more than a third-choice option.

With that in mind, it is believed Thomas Frank wants to strengthen the goalkeeping department by bringing in a keeper capable of pushing Vicario and raising standards across the squad. According to reports, Tottenham have identified Andriy Lunin as a strong candidate to fill that role.
The Ukrainian international is highly regarded but has found opportunities limited at Real Madrid, where he has spent most of his time playing second fiddle.
Lunin is said to be open to leaving the Santiago Bernabéu in search of regular football. At 26 years old, he is entering a crucial stage of his career where consistent game time is essential for development.
Despite having a contract that runs until 2030, Real Madrid are reportedly willing to listen to offers, though they remain in a powerful negotiating position. A fee in the region of £22 million has been mentioned, reflecting both his quality and long-term potential.

Tottenham are believed to be ahead of other interested clubs at this stage. Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion have also been linked, while Manchester United were previously credited with an interest before opting to sign Senne Lammens instead. Whether United return for Lunin remains to be seen, but Spurs appear to be in a strong position if they decide to push forward.
Lunin is not an unproven name at the highest level. During Thibaut Courtois’ injury absence a couple of seasons ago, he stepped in under Carlo Ancelotti and delivered when it mattered most.
He played a key role as Real Madrid went on to win both the Champions League and La Liga, showing composure, strong shot-stopping ability, and an impressive presence between the posts. Standing at 6ft 3in, he combines physical authority with quick reflexes and remains young enough to improve further.
For Tottenham, a signing like Lunin could prove to be a smart and forward-thinking move. He would bring genuine competition for Vicario while also offering the potential to become a long-term solution in goal. In a squad that has been criticised for lacking depth and reliability in key areas, that kind of addition could make a real difference.
The big question now is timing. It is unclear whether Spurs will attempt to complete a deal in January or wait until the summer window, when negotiations may be easier. Much will depend on Real Madrid’s stance and Tottenham’s own priorities.
Away from transfer speculation, Spurs must quickly refocus on the pitch. After a disappointing Premier League defeat to Bournemouth, attention now turns to the FA Cup, where they face Aston Villa this weekend in a match that could shape the mood around the club in the weeks ahead.
