Jamie Carragher names the manager he thinks perfectly suits Tottenham, not Thomas Frank

Jamie Carragher has stepped into the ongoing debate surrounding Tottenham Hotspur’s managerial situation, and he has made it clear who he believes would be the ideal fit if the club eventually decides to move on from Thomas Frank.

With pressure increasing around Spurs and frustration spreading among supporters, Carragher’s thoughts have only added more fuel to a discussion that is getting louder with each disappointing performance.

Tottenham’s season has drifted badly in recent weeks. The team has now gone five Premier League games without a win, and the nature of these performances has worried many fans even more than the results.

Supporters expected a bold and energetic style of football, something close to the front-foot identity Tottenham have historically tried to embrace. Instead, the football has been slow, risk-averse and flat. Matches often feel like they pass by without Spurs ever taking real control, and that lack of spark is what has upset the fanbase most.

The atmosphere inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has reflected that mood. Boos have been heard several times this season, and after the recent defeat to Fulham, a section of fans openly questioned whether Frank fits the club’s identity at all.

Some have even labelled him as someone who simply doesn’t “feel like a Spurs manager,” and while that may sound harsh, it shows the level of dissatisfaction growing around the team’s direction.

Amid all this noise, Jamie Carragher has offered his view on what Tottenham should do if things continue to decline. Speaking on The Overlap, the former Liverpool defender mentioned Marco Silva as the manager who, in his eyes, fits Tottenham perfectly.

Carragher made it clear he was not calling for Frank to be sacked immediately, but he believes Silva is someone who deserves a step up and that Tottenham might be the right destination if they eventually decide to make a change.

Carragher expressed regret that Everton never kept Silva longer, saying he always believed the Portuguese coach had something about him that could fit well at a club looking to push into the top bracket.

He described Silva as a manager who may not be ready for the likes of Liverpool or Manchester City but is more than capable of guiding a side that wants to break into the Champions League places and grow steadily clubs like Tottenham or Aston Villa in his view. Carragher’s point was simple: Silva has earned the right to be considered for a higher-level job, and he sees Spurs as a natural next step.

However, not everyone is convinced that Marco Silva is the solution Tottenham need. While Frank’s results have been poor, his team did at least avoid another defeat with a hard-earned draw against Newcastle this week.

But even that didn’t settle any concerns. Newcastle outplayed Tottenham for long spells and looked the more dangerous team throughout the night. Spurs relied on individual moments rather than any clear attacking structure, and once again they looked far from a confident, organised side.

Silva himself already beat Frank earlier this season, which is part of why his name is now being talked about more loudly. But when you look deeper, Silva’s style still divides opinion.

He has built a strong, organised Fulham side, and he deserves credit for the levels they have reached under him. Yet his approach can lean towards pragmatism, especially against stronger teams.

Tottenham supporters, on the other hand, want something far more adventurous. They want a manager who is committed to attacking football every single week, not only when the circumstances allow it.

This is where the doubts come in. Silva is a very capable coach, but whether he matches the football identity Spurs fans crave is still a major question.

Tottenham need to rediscover their confidence, speed, aggression and attacking drive. They need a manager who embraces risk rather than managing it carefully, and that is where Silva’s name splits opinion despite his growing reputation.

For now, Thomas Frank remains in the job, and he still has time to turn things around. But the conversation around him is shifting, and voices like Carragher’s only make it louder.

If the club decides they need a new direction, the debate over who fits Spurs best will only intensify and Marco Silva is now part of that discussion whether supporters agree with it or not.
