John Wenham: Levy applies pressure to secure next transfer at Tottenham
Daniel Levy is not someone who takes defeat lightly, especially when it comes to matters in the transfer market.
As the pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White stretches into a second week, the Tottenham chairman appears increasingly determined to bring the Nottingham Forest midfielder to North London.
Levy is renowned for his patience and calculated approach, and in this case, he’s prepared to play the long game to get what he wants.
Behind the scenes, Tottenham have been turning up the pressure on Forest, working to make the deal happen before the end of the window.
It’s widely believed that Gibbs-White is open to the move, which only fuels Spurs’ confidence that they can get it over the line.
Adding another layer to this transfer narrative, Tottenham’s interest in Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa has resurfaced and may not be as straightforward as it seems.

Reports suggest that Spurs are advancing in their pursuit of Wissa, with competition from Newcastle United. The Magpies turned their attention to Wissa after Hugo Ekitike expressed a preference for Liverpool, but Wissa is said to favour a reunion with Thomas Frank at Tottenham, which places Spurs in a favourable position.
However, some within the club’s fanbase believe the renewed links to Wissa are part of a wider strategy. John Wenham, the owner of Lilywhite Rose and a trusted voice among Tottenham supporters, has voiced his view that the club might be leveraging Wissa’s name to accelerate negotiations with Forest over Gibbs-White.
He suggests that Tottenham’s wing positions are already overcrowded, especially following the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel. Wenham believes Spurs would need to offload players before genuinely pursuing another wide man.
His comments point toward the Wissa interest being more tactical than genuine, a classic Levy maneuver to unsettle Forest and push the Gibbs-White deal closer to completion.
Still, even if it is partially a negotiation tactic, Wissa remains an appealing option for Tottenham. His familiarity with Thomas Frank’s system could smooth his transition into Spurs’ evolving squad.

The attacker showcased his quality last season, registering 20 goals and five assists in 39 appearances—a tally that speaks volumes about his capability in the final third.
In comparison, Gibbs-White’s numbers were also strong, with 7 goals and 10 assists in 38 appearances. Both players bring something unique, and their productivity could be even greater when paired with top-tier creators like James Maddison or potentially each other.
Wissa’s proven record under Frank and his clear potential make him a smart acquisition for the right price.
He understands what’s expected in the Premier League and has consistently delivered in a system not dissimilar to what Spurs might implement.
Whether or not the club is truly prioritizing him, the idea of having both Wissa and Gibbs-White at Hotspur Way next season is undeniably attractive.
Levy knows the value of players who can make an immediate impact, and if circumstances align, he may choose to strengthen his attack with both talents rather than settling for just one.
For now, the pressure is on Nottingham Forest. Tottenham have laid the groundwork, and with Gibbs-White interested in making the switch, Levy’s persistence could very well tip the scales in Spurs’ favour.
Whether the Wissa rumours are genuine or a well-crafted ploy, one thing is certain—Tottenham are not standing still this summer.
