Six Tottenham players are set to leave on June 30 when contracts expire

As the 2024/25 season draws to a close, Tottenham Hotspur are entering a critical phase off the pitch. With their attention now shifting toward preparations for the 2025/26 campaign, the North London club is expected to see a significant reshaping of its squad.

Despite a turbulent Premier League run that ended in a disappointing 17th-place finish, Spurs salvaged their season with an extraordinary Europa League triumph, securing a spot in next year’s UEFA Champions League and delivering long-awaited silverware to the fanbase.

While Ange Postecoglou’s future as manager remains uncertain following a season marked by contradictions—leading the team to its first trophy in 17 years yet overseeing its worst-ever domestic league finish—the club also faces contractual decisions that will affect the composition of next season’s squad.

Six players are poised to leave Hotspur Way at the end of June when their current deals expire, making this summer a pivotal moment for the club’s recruitment and retention strategy.

Among those set to depart is Timo Werner, whose second spell at Tottenham failed to meet expectations.

Brought in on loan from RB Leipzig, the German forward struggled to secure regular playing time, even amid a season plagued by injuries within the squad. Over the course of the campaign, Werner managed just under 1,000 minutes on the pitch, contributing one goal and three assists.

His impact, though minimal, did include helping the team achieve their ultimate goal of winning a trophy. Still, with his loan deal ending and no strong indications of a permanent move, Werner is expected to return to Germany.

Mathys Tel’s future remains unresolved. The young French forward joined Spurs from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window and, while he didn’t dominate headlines, he steadily grew into his role as a valuable squad player.

In 20 appearances, Tel netted three goals and provided one assist, showing flashes of promise and adaptability. Tottenham retain an option to make his stay permanent for a reported £46 million.

However, with no final decision yet made, he could still return to Bayern this summer unless the club acts swiftly to secure his services.

Sergio Reguilon, another name on the list, has long seemed destined to leave the club. Marginalized at the start of the season, Reguilon only found his way back into the side due to an injury crisis, making a few brief appearances.

However, his contract is set to expire at the end of June, and there’s little expectation that Tottenham will offer him an extension.

As a result, the Spanish left-back will soon be free to explore new opportunities elsewhere, closing a chapter at Spurs that never quite fulfilled its early promise.

Veteran defender Ben Davies may have also played his final game for the club. The Welsh international has been a dependable figure at Tottenham for over a decade, often praised for his consistency and professionalism.

He featured in the club’s final league game against Brighton, possibly marking his farewell appearance in a Spurs shirt. Reports suggest that an extension is unlikely, especially with the club being linked to younger defensive options such as Marc Guehi.

If this is indeed his swan song, Davies departs with his head held high, having served the club with loyalty and dedication.

Fraser Forster, now 37, finds himself in a similar situation. The arrival of Antonin Kinsky in January appeared to signal the end of Forster’s time at Tottenham.

The veteran goalkeeper, once a reliable backup option, has been absent from recent matchday squads, and his contract is also due to expire at the end of June.

With the club clearly investing in younger goalkeeping talent, Forster is not expected to receive a new offer, bringing his time at Spurs to a quiet close.

Also set to leave is Alfie Whiteman, another goalkeeper whose career at Tottenham has been more about promise than opportunity. The 26-year-old has been with the club since 2017 but has made only one senior appearance in that time.

As the club aims to refresh and reshape the squad heading into the next campaign, Whiteman looks unlikely to remain part of the picture. His impending departure marks the end of a long, if uneventful, association with the club.

With these departures looming, Tottenham’s leadership will need to act decisively in the transfer window to rebuild key areas of the squad.

The Europa League triumph has provided a morale boost and a gateway to Champions League football, but the foundation for sustained success must be laid this summer.

Whether Postecoglou remains at the helm or not, the club faces a defining period, one that will require a blend of bold acquisitions and calculated exits.
