View: ‘Dreadful’ 0% dud does not deserve to play for Tottenham again after Fulham defeat
Yves Bissouma’s performance against Fulham on Sunday was nothing short of disastrous, and it raises serious questions about his future at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 2-0 Premier League defeat at Craven Cottage was a collective failure, but Bissouma’s individual display stood out for all the wrong reasons.
While manager Ange Postecoglou must shoulder some of the blame for making seven changes to the starting lineup following the midweek Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar, Bissouma’s lackluster showing highlighted why he no longer deserves a place in the team.
From the first whistle, Bissouma looked out of sorts, struggling to make any meaningful impact on the game. His passing was erratic, his decision-making poor, and his overall contribution minimal.
As noted by Alasdair Gold on X (formerly Twitter), Bissouma was “dreadful in possession,” often panicking under pressure and delivering misplaced or overly powerful passes that put his teammates in difficult situations.
According to Sofascore, the midfielder completed just 82% of his passes, won only two of his six ground duels, and failed to succeed in any of his attempted dribbles.

To make matters worse, he lost possession six times and committed two fouls before being substituted at halftime. It was a performance that epitomized his struggles since joining Tottenham.
Bissouma’s display against Fulham was particularly disappointing given the context of the match. This was an opportunity for him to prove his worth to Postecoglou and stake a claim for a regular starting spot.
Instead, he made the manager’s decision to include him in the lineup look misguided. His inability to control the midfield or provide any semblance of stability left Tottenham exposed and contributed to their inability to gain a foothold in the game. For a player of his experience and talent, such a performance is inexcusable.
This is not the first time Bissouma has failed to deliver for Tottenham. Since his move from Brighton, he has struggled to replicate the form that made him one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League.
Injuries and inconsistent performances have plagued his time in North London, and Sunday’s match was a stark reminder of why he has failed to establish himself as a key player for the club. At 28 years old, Bissouma should be in the prime of his career, but his recent displays suggest he is far from it.
The defeat to Fulham leaves Tottenham in a precarious position in the Premier League, with the possibility of finishing in the bottom half of the table becoming increasingly real. Postecoglou now faces a difficult decision regarding Bissouma’s future.
While the manager may have hoped to see the midfielder step up and seize his opportunity, the opposite has happened. Bissouma’s performance was so poor that it would be difficult to justify giving him another chance in the starting lineup this season.
Moving forward, Tottenham should seriously consider parting ways with Bissouma in the summer. His time at the club has been underwhelming, and his display against Fulham was the final straw.
For the remainder of the season, he should be relegated to the reserves, allowing younger or more consistent players to step up and prove their worth. Tottenham cannot afford to carry passengers, especially as they look to rebuild and compete for higher honors in the future.
In the end, Bissouma’s performance against Fulham was a microcosm of his Tottenham career—promise unfulfilled and potential wasted. While Postecoglou must take responsibility for some of the team’s struggles, Bissouma’s inability to rise to the occasion is a problem that the club can no longer ignore.
Cutting ties with the midfielder would be a step in the right direction as Tottenham look to move on from this disappointing chapter and build a brighter future.
