Who Mathys Tel sits next to in the Tottenham dressing room might surprise you
Mathys Tel has shared insights into his first month at Tottenham Hotspur following his move from Bayern Munich, revealing what Harry Kane told him before his arrival and who he sits next to in the dressing room.
The 19-year-old French forward joined Spurs on loan last month, with an option for a permanent transfer set at £45.7 million. Since arriving in North London, he has already featured in all three domestic competitions, scoring his first goal for the club during an FA Cup clash against Aston Villa.
Now preparing for Tottenham’s Europa League round of 16 first-leg match against AZ Alkmaar, Tel has been engaging in media interviews ahead of the crucial fixture. In a recent session with TNT Sports, he answered 20 questions, offering a glimpse into his adaptation at Spurs under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou.

One of the most intriguing revelations came when he disclosed what club legend Harry Kane told him before he left Bayern for Tottenham. According to Tel, Kane assured him that he would enjoy the experience and praised the training ground facilities, adding that if he ever needed anything, he could always reach out for assistance.
Regarding his seating arrangement in the dressing room, Tel’s response was somewhat unexpected. Rather than being positioned next to any of the French-speaking players, he found himself sitting beside Sergio Reguilón and Richarlison.
This suggests he may have been assigned a spot at the end of the row, possibly due to available space, despite being close friends with Wilson Odobert from their time together in the French youth teams.
When asked which teammates he was most eager to connect with, he mentioned French-speaking players like Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, and Wilson Odobert.
However, he singled out Heung-Min Son as someone he especially looked forward to getting to know.
Another interesting moment came when Tel was asked which skill or attribute he would take from another Tottenham player. Without hesitation, he pointed to James Maddison, emphasizing the midfielder’s incredible technique and composure on the ball.
He described Maddison’s ability as “crazy” and expressed admiration for his calmness and technical quality, qualities Tel aspires to incorporate into his own game.
As Tel continues to settle into life at Tottenham, his early experiences indicate he is embracing the club’s environment and forming connections with teammates. With his talent and determination, he looks set to make a significant impact as Spurs push forward in multiple competitions.
