Postecoglou reveals what he hated most about Spurs vs Galatasaray
After Tottenham Hotspur’s tough Europa League defeat against Galatasaray, head coach Ange Postecoglou shared his frustration over his team’s lack of composure.
The match, held at Galatasaray’s RAMS Park, presented a challenging atmosphere for Spurs, but Postecoglou expected his team to display better control, especially in possession.
Tottenham’s defensive errors were glaring, particularly in marking Galatasaray’s striker Victor Osimhen, who netted two crucial goals.
Despite Tottenham rallying in the second half and managing a close 3-2 loss even after Will Lankshear’s red card, the game underscored significant issues with the team’s decision-making and discipline.
Postecoglou specifically criticized the first-half performance, which he believes set the team back. He remarked, “In the first half, we gave the ball away too much, lacked composure, and allowed Galatasaray to gain control. We paid the price.”
His concern over these “self-inflicted” mistakes highlights his view that Spurs had opportunities to maintain possession more effectively. “With simple solutions available, keeping the ball shouldn’t have been difficult,” he said, noting how even with 10 men, they showed better composure.
The coach also suggested that his tactical adjustments and the charged atmosphere may have influenced their focus, yet he remains frustrated by their inability to perform consistently.
In his assessment, the difference in Spurs’ performance with 11 men versus 10 was disappointing. He lamented that Tottenham’s mistakes in the first half prevented them from potentially securing a valuable point in an intensely challenging away game.
