Elsewhere, Manchester United, under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, delivered an exhilarating 5-2 win against Leicester in their first game post-Erik ten Hag.

Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss responded with a goal, only for United to extend their lead through a deflected Bruno Fernandes free-kick and another from Casemiro.

Though Conor Coady brought Leicester closer in stoppage time, Fernandes’ second goal secured United’s place in the next round, much to the delight of fans chanting Van Nistelrooy’s name throughout the night.
