Ange Postecoglou says £90k/wk Tottenham player is ‘definitely an option’ to start at left wing tonight

Tottenham Hotspur is preparing for a challenging Carabao Cup fourth-round clash against Manchester City, one of the toughest opponents they could face.

Scheduled for an 8:15 pm kickoff at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this high-stakes match has Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou facing a key selection decision, particularly regarding the left side of the attack.

Mikey Moore, a rising star in the squad, has already started Tottenham’s last two games, but a third consecutive start within a week might be a heavy load for the young player.

Considering this, Postecoglou has hinted at alternative options. In particular, he mentioned a player who doesn’t typically feature on the left but is “definitely an option” for this critical role in the upcoming game.

This player is Richarlison, who has recently returned to action after a spell on the sidelines due to injury. During Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Postecoglou was asked about the possibility of using Richarlison on the left.

Earning approximately £90,000 weekly, Richarlison has shown versatility, and his coach acknowledged this flexibility. Postecoglou confirmed that Richarlison is “definitely an option” on the left flank, while also being viable through the middle.

He noted that the Brazilian is steadily regaining match fitness and that as he builds up more minutes, he could become a valuable contributor to Tottenham’s campaign, given that the season is still relatively young.

Richarlison’s familiarity with the left-wing position is well-documented. According to data from Transfermarkt, he has made 109 career appearances on the left side for his club teams, plus an additional 11 for Brazil. In contrast, he has featured 163 times as a center-forward and 60 times on the right wing, illustrating his adaptability across the forward line.

This positional flexibility gives Tottenham a strategic advantage, as Richarlison brings both experience and a level of comfort on the left side, a role he has played frequently over his career.
