Tottenham now ready to activate the departure of 2024 arrival in January window
Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner has struggled to secure consistent playing time since joining on loan at the start of the season.
Reports indicate Tottenham is open to ending his loan stint as early as January, as he has not become a key figure in the squad. At 28, Werner needs regular minutes to thrive, yet he has only played 214 minutes of Premier League football so far this season.
A departure could give him the chance to find a team where he can start regularly and showcase his abilities.
For Tottenham, retaining Werner on loan appears less practical, especially as they already have depth in the wide areas. His potential exit could clear space for a new striker to complement their attacking lineup, particularly to provide additional support for Dominic Solanke.
Werner, capable of playing both as a central striker and on the wings, offers versatility with his attacking skills and defensive work ethic. However, his performances with Tottenham have been underwhelming, and he has yet to make the expected impact since joining.
Werner initially joined Tottenham on loan in January 2024, with the club extending the loan into the summer. However, his time with the North London club has been marked by inconsistency, and he has yet to find the rhythm he displayed in the Bundesliga.
Tottenham’s interest in parting ways aligns with RB Leipzig’s reported willingness to consider a new loan or a permanent transfer for the German international, who appears unwanted by his parent club.
After achieving considerable success in Germany’s top league, Werner’s stints in the Premier League have not lived up to expectations. Following a lukewarm experience at Chelsea, his move to Tottenham has similarly lacked impact.
A new opportunity in January could provide Werner with a fresh start, giving him the chance to find a team that can better utilize his talents and allow him to regain his best form.
