Jeff Stelling thinks Postecoglou and Directors is now having issue’s with two players

Ange Postecoglou faces a challenging period of reflection over the international break regarding his Tottenham squad.

Despite moments of promise, Spurs once again showed their vulnerable side, collapsing in the second half against Brighton.

The match looked set to be a turning point after their previous North London Derby loss, with Spurs pushing to secure six consecutive wins in all competitions. However, their defensive frailties resurfaced, leading to another disappointing outcome.

Brighton, under Fabian Hurzeler, have started the season strongly and are known for their high-caliber attacking play.

While Jeff Stelling pointed out that losing to a side like Brighton is no embarrassment, he highlighted the manner of Tottenham’s defeat as the main issue.

Brighton didn’t need to work too hard for their goals, as Spurs gifted them opportunities through errors in the second half. Tottenham’s defense, once again, came under heavy criticism, particularly for its lack of cohesion and focus when under pressure.

Stelling specifically singled out fullbacks Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro for their defensive shortcomings.

While he praised their attacking contributions, he stressed that Tottenham has a significant problem with both players defensively.

Udogie, young and still developing, showed signs of inexperience, while Porro, known for his forward play, has consistently struggled with the defensive aspects of his role.

According to Stelling, this imbalance puts extra pressure on the team and is something Postecoglou must address if Spurs are to become a more reliable side.

Postecoglou also faces a broader challenge of managing his squad effectively. In European competitions, he has shown a willingness to rotate and give opportunities to young talent, but it may be time to adopt a similar approach in the Premier League.

Mikey Moore, for instance, has shown promise and could be a better option in the final third, given Timo Werner’s lackluster performances.

Additionally, Djed Spence, who has had a mixed journey at Tottenham so far, could have made a difference in the game against Brighton if given the chance.

Postecoglou may need to consider pulling Udogie out of the firing line occasionally to allow him room to develop without excessive pressure.

As for Porro, his defensive issues may continue to be a weak link for the team, given that defending isn’t his natural strength. The international break provides an opportunity for Postecoglou to reassess his tactics and squad management as Tottenham looks to recover from this setback.

With key matches ahead, including a London derby against West Ham, the Tottenham manager must find a way to stabilize his side’s defensive performances.

The team has shown that it can score goals and compete with top sides, but their inability to maintain composure when it matters most has raised questions about their long-term prospects under Postecoglou. Balancing attacking flair with defensive solidity will be crucial if Spurs hope to return to winning form after the break.
