Van der Vaart thinks Postecoglou has messed up so bad with wonderful Spurs ace

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart recently expressed his belief that Ange Postecoglou may have made a critical mistake in allowing one particular player to leave the club permanently this summer.

While Tottenham has been enjoying success in the Premier League, bolstered by a mix of young talents and experienced players, Van der Vaart’s comments bring attention to a former Spurs player who might have slipped through the cracks.

Tottenham has started the season strong under Postecoglou, with much of the credit going to their impressive youth development.

Players like Brennan Johnson, who has contributed five goals and assists in his last five matches, and Destiny Udogie, who continues to shine, are evidence of the club’s growing talent pool.

Additionally, 17-year-old Mikey Moore has captured the attention of fans and analysts alike. Moore made his first Spurs start in their win over Ferencvaros after previously coming off the bench in three appearances.

His raw talent has drawn comparisons to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, hinting that Tottenham may have unearthed another potential superstar in the making.

Moore is joined by fellow young attacker Will Lankshear, and the pair are seen as key figures in Tottenham’s future.

However, despite all the positive developments at the club, Van der Vaart suggests that Tottenham may have made a misstep by allowing one young talent, Troy Parrott, to leave on a permanent deal.

Parrott, who struggled during various loan spells at clubs like MK Dons, Preston North End, Ipswich Town, and Excelsior, was sold to AZ Alkmaar over the summer.

The 21-year-old has since thrived at his new club, scoring five goals in seven Eredivisie matches and even finding the back of the net in the Europa League.

His early success in the Netherlands contrasts with his mixed performances during his time in England, leading Van der Vaart to believe that Tottenham may regret letting him go.

Parrott’s time at Tottenham was marked by inconsistency, and his loan spells did little to convince the club that he was ready for a long-term future in North London.

At MK Dons, Parrott managed 10 goals and 7 assists in 47 appearances, but his performances at Preston North End and Ipswich Town were far less prolific, with only 4 goals and no assists at Preston and 2 goals at Ipswich.

His loan spell at Excelsior, however, was much more promising, with 17 goals and 5 assists in 32 appearances.

Despite this improvement, Tottenham opted to sell him, a decision that Van der Vaart believes could backfire.

Parrott’s resurgence at AZ Alkmaar raises questions about whether Tottenham acted too quickly in allowing him to leave.

Van der Vaart praised Parrott’s development, stating that the young striker now has a more complete game and could become a major player if he sharpens his killer instinct in front of goal.

According to Van der Vaart, Parrott has all the attributes necessary to succeed at the highest level but may need to focus more on his finishing to fully realize his potential.

The former Spurs midfielder sees Parrott as a hidden gem, one who could have been a valuable asset to Tottenham had they given him more time to grow.

With the likes of Richarlison, Dominic Solanke, and Will Lankshear already competing for attacking roles at Tottenham, it’s understandable why Parrott decided to move on.

However, given his recent form in the Netherlands, Tottenham may soon find themselves second-guessing their decision to sell him.

While Parrott continues to impress in the Eredivisie, Spurs will hope that they haven’t allowed a future star to slip away, especially with his potential continuing to unfold.

Only time will tell if Parrott’s departure proves to be a costly mistake for Tottenham, but for now, his journey at AZ Alkmaar is one to watch closely.
