Ange Postecoglou provides injury update on Son and Udogie ahead of Brighton
Tottenham Hotspur have shifted their focus to prepare for Sunday’s match against Brighton, with manager Ange Postecoglou addressing the media on Friday at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground.
This quick turnaround follows their 2-1 victory over Ferencvaros on Thursday evening, a win that came without the presence of club captain Heung-min Son, who is still sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
Son’s absence has been felt, as the forward has now missed key victories, including matches against Manchester United and Ferencvaros. In his place, Postecoglou opted to deploy Timo Werner on the left side of his attacking trio. While the South Korean star’s recovery is progressing, Postecoglou confirmed that Son is unlikely to feature in the upcoming match against Brighton, though he remains eager to return.
On a brighter note, there was positive news regarding Destiny Udogie. The left-back was forced off at halftime during Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Manchester United last weekend, but Postecoglou indicated that Udogie is expected to be fit and ready for Sunday’s game. He participated in training on Friday and will continue to prepare with the squad.
When speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou commented on the overall fitness of the team following the Ferencvaros match. He acknowledged the players were fatigued but reassured fans that there were no major injuries to worry about.
He confirmed that while Udogie is expected to be fit, Son is pushing hard to return, but it remains too soon for him to be included in the squad.
Brennan Johnson has been another bright spot for Tottenham, continuing his excellent form in recent weeks. Postecoglou praised the winger for his contributions, highlighting his growing confidence on the pitch. Johnson’s ability to find the bottom corner is no fluke, according to the Spurs boss, who has been impressed by how the young player has stepped up to the challenge.
Postecoglou expressed his belief that Johnson’s recent performances have allowed him to surpass many of his peers in the Premier League. The manager noted that the young winger is still developing, with a strong desire to learn and improve, which bodes well for both the player and the club’s future.
Johnson’s work ethic and determination have played a significant role in his ability to silence his critics and establish himself as a key player for Tottenham.
The turnaround in Johnson’s form is remarkable, considering the amount of criticism he faced just a few weeks ago. After enduring heavy scrutiny, the Wales international deactivated his social media accounts, an action that underscored the pressure professional footballers often face.
However, Johnson’s resilience has shone through, and his current run of form has left many of his detractors reconsidering their previous opinions. As with many footballers, time is often needed to regain confidence and achieve results on the pitch.
In Johnson’s case, that confidence has returned, and his performances have reflected that resurgence. His recent success serves as a reminder that players may take varying lengths of time to hit their stride, but once they do, the results can be transformative. Now, Johnson’s ability to contribute meaningfully to Tottenham’s campaign is clear, and his critics have been forced to acknowledge his growth.
