‘Leaked Carsley England squad axed out 3 big names but spurs star first call-up in 7 years
Interim England manager Lee Carsley is expected to include Tottenham Hotspur forward Dominic Solanke in the upcoming national team squad.
Solanke, who joined Spurs this summer for £65 million from Bournemouth, has made an impressive start to his Tottenham career, scoring three goals in six appearances.
According to reports from The Athletic, Solanke is likely to be part of the England squad for the October internationals, where the Three Lions will face Greece and Finland.
This call-up would mark a return to the national side for Solanke, who earned his first and only England cap back in November 2017 during a friendly against Brazil.
Despite his promising debut, Solanke hasn’t featured for England since. Now, with his recent form at Tottenham, it seems likely that he will have the opportunity to add to his international experience next week.
However, not all regular names are expected to be on the list for the October internationals. Carsley is reportedly planning to leave out Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen.
Both players were part of England’s squad during their September victories over the Republic of Ireland and Finland but are set to miss out this time around.
In another notable exclusion, Solanke’s Tottenham teammate James Maddison is also expected to miss out on a spot in the England squad.
Maddison was overlooked for the European Championships this past summer and will reportedly be left out again when the official squad is announced for the upcoming fixtures.
His omission could raise eyebrows given his talent and form, but it appears he will not feature in Carsley’s plans for the October internationals.
Aston Villa’s rising star Morgan Rogers, who has been delivering standout performances for the club under Unai Emery, will also remain absent from the senior squad.
Despite his excellent form this season, the 22-year-old winger looks set to stay with the England Under-21 side for the upcoming international break.
His continued development with the U-21s is likely a reflection of England’s strategy to nurture his talent before promoting him to the senior team.
As Carsley prepares to announce his squad, these decisions highlight the ongoing competition for places in the national team.
Solanke’s recall will be seen as a recognition of his recent performances at Tottenham, but for others like Maguire, Bowen, Maddison, and Rogers, it serves as a reminder of the fierce battle for inclusion in the England setup.
