“I’m very mad right now” – Annoyance over upcoming transfer as Tottenham should have signed him first

Sandro has expressed his disappointment over Tottenham Hotspur’s failure to secure the signing of Palmeiras’ Estêvão Willian, who will instead join Chelsea.

The 17-year-old winger, who first joined Palmeiras’ academy in 2021, broke into the Brazilian club’s first team last year.

His performances quickly garnered attention from top European clubs, and Chelsea successfully struck a deal for the player back in June, with the move to Stamford Bridge set for next year.

Sandro, who moved to Europe when he signed for Tottenham in 2010, recently discussed this in a media appearance.

He shared his frustration about Tottenham missing the opportunity to sign the young talent. Speaking to PL Brasil, Sandro expressed his belief that Spurs should have done more to secure Estêvão ahead of their London rivals, Chelsea.

Estêvão has been impressive for Palmeiras, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 37 appearances for the senior team.

His standout performances and potential made him a prime target for several top clubs in Europe. However, Chelsea moved quickly and secured the deal, leaving Tottenham disappointed, especially in Sandro’s eyes.

He believes that the North London side should have gone all out to bring the Brazilian winger to their ranks.

Sandro stated, “All I can say about Estêvão Willian is that Spurs should have bought him first. I’m not happy that he signed for Chelsea, but he’s the kind of player who can change Brazil’s future.”

Sandro, who spent four years at Tottenham from 2010 to 2014, holds the belief that Estêvão can shine at Chelsea, provided the club allows him the necessary time to adjust and grow.

“He’s a top player, and I think he’s ready to play in the Premier League, as long as Chelsea give him time to find his best level and take the next step,” Sandro added.

He went on to highlight Estêvão’s skillset, pointing out his ability to take on defenders, shoot, and show exceptional technical ability.

“He is a great player and has shown in recent years that he can face players, shoot, and is very skilled. He is an exciting player to watch. There is a huge difference between football in Brazil and the Premier League, but if he trains hard, he could be one of the best players for Chelsea and Brazil.”

Estêvão will turn 18 in April and is set to join Chelsea in the summer of 2025. Despite Tottenham’s missed opportunity, it seems the young Brazilian is on a trajectory that could see him become a key figure for Chelsea in the years to come.
