Spurs hero allowed to go by Conte for free, now he is outperforming Richarlison & Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League campaign has yet to hit its stride, despite the season being in its early stages. After a 1-1 draw away at Leicester City, a resounding 4-0 victory against Everton, and a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United, the North London club has shown inconsistency.

With plenty of time left for Tottenham to turn their season around, the contributions of their key players, such as James Maddison and Richarlison, will be crucial. However, their performances have been overshadowed by a former Spurs player who left the club last year.

James Maddison, a pivotal figure in Tottenham’s midfield, joined the club for £40 million last summer. Despite a somewhat underwhelming end to the season, largely due to injury issues, Maddison managed to score four goals and provide nine assists in 30 matches. His contributions translated to a goal involvement every 2.30 games, showcasing his value when fit.

Richarlison, who has been with Tottenham for over a season, has yet to fully justify his move from Everton. His first season saw him contribute three goals and four assists in 35 appearances.

Although he improved in his second season with 12 goals and four assists in 31 games, his overall performance has been disappointing. This led to the club investing £65 million in Dominic Solanke, pushing Richarlison into a secondary role for the time being.

Lucas Moura becoming Star After Leaving Spurs

Lucas Moura, who left Tottenham for São Paulo on a free transfer last August, has made an impressive comeback. His final seasons with Tottenham saw him relegated to a bench role, but his departure has proven beneficial for both him and his new club.

Moura’s final campaign with Spurs saw him play only 394 minutes, a sharp decline from the 3,173 minutes he played in his first full season.

Since returning to São Paulo, Moura has reinvigorated his career. In the 2023/24 season, he made 33 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists. His goal involvement per match stands at 0.48, surpassing Maddison’s 0.43 and matching Richarlison’s tally of 16 goal involvements.

Lucas Moura’s resurgence in São Paulo highlights the contrasting fortunes of Tottenham’s former and current stars. Despite a less impactful final stint at Tottenham, Moura’s performance in Brazil has outpaced Maddison and Richarlison in several key metrics.

Moreover, Moura’s recent inclusion in Brazil’s national squad further underscores his current form, whereas Richarlison was dropped in May and has yet to reclaim his spot.
