Director says Tottenham wanted ‘inaccessible’ purchase option – Turned to agents for transfer assurance

Bryan Gil is now a fully fledged Girona player, with the Spaniard’s loan move from Tottenham Hotspur being announced on Monday.

He’ll be able to compete in the Champions League next season, but much more important than that is getting minutes. Gil has been speaking following his presentation and he made it clear that playing regularly is what he needs right now in his career, and a feeling of being trusted by the club he’s at.

Mundo Deportivo quote him as saying: “I can’t be at a club where I don’t get minutes and I want to be somewhere where they really trust me.

Initial reports stated Girona would be loaning Gil from Tottenham with a purchase option which they could activate next year if the player impressed enough for them. On Monday that line of reporting changed to it being simply a dry loan, with no option at all.

Girona’s sporting director Quique Cárcel has now explained why that’s the case: “They wanted the purchase option to be very high, inaccessible for us, and we have reached an agreement with the agents and, if Bryan has a good year, we will have more access to be able to sign him.”

However, if Gil does have a good year then Tottenham are hardly going to sell him on the cheap so we could all be set for another drama around the player in about 12 months.
