Tottenham ‘very close’ after cruel injury blow prompts improved bid offer set to be accepted
Pedro Porro has emerged as Tottenham Hotspur’s first-choice right-back, surpassing Emerson Royal with a string of impressive performances. Porro’s excellence on the field relegated Emerson to a backup role last season, often deploying the Brazilian out of position at left-back to cover for Destiny Udogie’s various absences.
The addition of Archie Gray, a versatile former Leeds United player capable of playing central midfield or right-back, has further diminished Emerson’s utility for manager Ange Postecoglou. This development has intensified speculation about Emerson’s future at the club.
Emerson Royal, 25, had agreed to personal terms with AC Milan back in June. The deal, set to last five years, would net Emerson approximately €50,000 per week. However, Milan’s initial offer of €10 million (£8.5 million) was deemed insufficient by Tottenham’s decision-makers.
In light of the initial rejection, AC Milan began exploring other options, including Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Valued at £15 million, Wan-Bissaka was also in talks with West Ham, prompting Milan to reconsider their approach.
A turning point came when Milan full-back Alessandro Florenzi suffered a serious knee injury during a pre-season match against Manchester City. Florenzi’s injury necessitated an operation and a lengthy recovery period, leading Milan to refocus their efforts on securing Emerson.
Sky Italia reports that AC Milan has increased their offer for Emerson Royal from €10 million (£8.5 million) to a range of €14 million to €15 million (£11.8 million to £12.7 million), including potential add-ons. This improved bid has been described as “very close” to acceptance, with Tottenham likely to agree to the terms.
Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on social media that AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur will engage in a fresh round of talks to finalize the transfer.
Romano noted that Milan is confident in securing the deal, stating, “Emerson Royal, expected to join AC Milan from Tottenham this week as reported earlier. There’s one more round of talks set to take place on Monday with AC Milan confident to get final green light.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to hold out for a more lucrative offer appears to have been a prudent one. The anticipated acceptance of Milan’s improved bid for Emerson Royal will mark the end of the Brazilian’s tenure at Spurs and provide a financial boost for the club.
This transfer saga underscores the importance of strategic patience in the transfer market, rewarding Tottenham’s decision-makers for their steadfast approach.
The potential departure of Emerson Royal to AC Milan not only benefits Tottenham financially but also reinforces the club’s strategic direction under Postecoglou.
As Tottenham looks ahead to the new season, the successful negotiation of this transfer will likely be seen as a pivotal moment in their summer dealings, allowing them to further strengthen their squad and build on the solid foundation established in the previous campaign.
