‘He’s earned his spot well’ – Postecoglou hailed young ace impact in Spurs first team win
Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season campaign has been marked by the standout performances of 16-year-old Mikey Moore. This talented youngster has been training with the first team since the end of last season and has been nothing short of spectacular this summer, participating in all three of Spurs’ pre-season friendlies.
In a recent match against Vissel Kobe in Japan, Moore added to his growing reputation by scoring the winning goal. The teenager’s tap-in, assisted by a precise cross from Jamie Donley, showcased his knack for being in the right place at the right time. This follows his earlier goal against Hearts, highlighting his consistent impact on the field.
With three more pre-season friendlies on the horizon against Bayern Munich (twice) and Team K-League, Moore has ample opportunities to further impress Tottenham’s head coach, Ange Postecoglou.
These matches will provide the young star with more chances to showcase his skills and cement his place in the first team.
As Moore is only 16, he is not yet eligible to sign a professional contract or go out on loan. This means he will likely remain in North London for at least the first half of the season.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham is close to finalizing a new contract with Moore, hoping he will sign the deal as soon as he turns 17 on August 11.
Ange Postecoglou’s admiration for Moore is evident. In a post-match interview with Football London, he stated, “Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in. He’s earned his spot on the roster at the moment — he did at the end of last year.
He got a run with the first team because we could see in training that he was handling himself really well and that’s followed through into pre-season training. He’s been good in all the games — he probably should have had three tonight, to be fair — but he did take his goal well by being in the right areas.”
Postecoglou continued, “All we can do is keep allowing him to develop. We have to remember that last year he had some injuries and he is only 16, but — yeah — super exciting. I think the future with a lot of our young guys looks pretty promising, but it’s our responsibility to make sure they realise their potential and continue to work hard at their game.”
Many observers, including those at Spurs Web, believe that Moore could have a breakout season this year. His performances suggest he is ready to make an impact not just in cup competitions and the Europa League but also with some cameo appearances in the Premier League.
If a player is good enough to influence the first team, their age should not be a barrier, and Postecoglou appears ready to give Moore opportunities to shine, even in high-stakes situations.
Mikey Moore’s rise is a testament to Tottenham’s thriving academy system. His seamless transition to the first team and his impressive pre-season performances reflect the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
As Tottenham continues to integrate more academy players into the first team, the future looks bright for the club.
The upcoming season holds great promise for Moore and other young players at Tottenham. With Postecoglou’s guidance and a supportive environment, these budding stars have the potential to make significant contributions to the team’s success.
Moore’s journey is just beginning, and fans have every reason to be excited about what he will bring to the pitch in the 2024/25 season and beyond.
Mikey Moore’s remarkable pre-season performances have earned him praise and recognition, positioning him as one of Tottenham’s most promising young talents.
As he continues to develop under the watchful eye of Ange Postecoglou, Moore is poised to become a key player for Spurs in the near future.
His journey from the academy to the first team serves as an inspiration and a testament to the strength of Tottenham’s youth development program.
