Tottenham could make shock move to sign £84m striker as his asking price drops

Tottenham Hotspur have been given some hope of signing one of the most prolific strikers in Europe for a ‘cut-price fee’ this summer.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are in good spirits after a fantastic start to their pre-season. They’ve beaten Cambridge United and Hearts, scoring a combined 12 goals in those two games.

That, however, doesn’t change the fact that Tottenham need reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch before the window shuts.

A new striker is expected to be high on the agenda, and Spurs have now been linked with a ‘surprise’ move to sign Dejan Kulusevski’s international teammate.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of top-quality strikers since the transfer window opened in June.

Postecoglou made the bold decision of not replacing Harry Kane after he left the club to join Bayern Munich before the start of the 2023/24 season.

That stance will definitely change in this window, and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon has suddenly emerged as a target for Tottenham.

GiveMeSport claim that ‘Tottenham have been given hope of being able to sign Gyokeres for a cut-price fee’ as there is growing confidence that Sporting’s demands will reduce.

Reports have claimed for months that Gyokeres will only be available if his release clause of €100 million (£84m) is triggered, but that fee is expected to come down now.

It has been added that Tottenham will make a ‘surprise’ move for the talented Sweden international if they are given assurances that he can be signed for a bargain fee.

The report does not mention what the reduced price will be, but it has been revealed that Postecoglou’s wish to sign two attackers could be fulfilled.

Tottenham, however, face competition for his signature.

Gyokeres’ stats in 2023/24 will blow Tottenham fans away

It seems a bit silly now that no Premier League club were prepared to beat Sporting Lisbon to sign Gyokeres when he left Coventry City.

The Swede was right here in England, available for only €26 million, which is just under £22 million (Coventry Telegraph), including add-ons.

Since his move to Portugal, Gyokeres has been on fire. He scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions for Ruben Amorim’s side.

To put the above figures into context, Kane, who had an unbelievable debut season at Bayern, scored 44 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions.

If Spurs can sign Gyokeres for an affordable fee in this window, they could finally replace Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
