Tottenham player makes position clear to club, he wants to leave this summer

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to lose a defender this summer as one player has urged the club to allow him to leave.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have already completed the signing of Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall and also want another midfielder to add to their ranks.

The Lilywhites are understood to have made an enquiry over the possible signing of winger Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United but the Hammers are understood to have been unequivocal in their view, he’s not for sale this summer at any price.

However, whilst signings will be important, outgoings to balance the books will also be key and it appears one player has made his position clear on an exit this summer.

Spurs star urges club to allow him to leave this summer

Emerson Royal has become more of a bit-part player for Tottenham under Postecoglou with the Australian preferring Pedro Porro at right-back.

The Brazilian has been used at left-back when he has started games for the club but it appears he has made his mind up with AC Milan understood to be interested.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Royal has now made his position on a potential transfer to the San Siro perfectly clear.

“I’ve always made it clear. Every player likes to play. I’m very competitive. It bothers me a lot to be on the bench,” he said.

“I was upset and said so to the coach. But I’ve always been very professional. I’ve always been one of those who put the most intensity into training, but this situation doesn’t work for me, so I don’t know what my future will be.

“I’m not a player who sits on the bench. I want to play. If it’s not here, I understand. But let me go somewhere where I can play.”

Royal responds to AC Milan rumours

When asked directly about a potential move to the club by the South American outlet, Royal said: “It’s a very special moment. To know that teams of this calibre want me. It was special when Barcelona came after me, I realised a dream. Milan is a reference point for us Brazilians.”

The full-back featured in 24 games for the Lilywhites last season, but only five of these were in his preferred position of right-back.

Former Spurs assistant Christian Stellini once hailed the right-back as ‘important‘ following a victory over Manchester City back in 2023 and the Brazilian would be missed if he made the move to Italy this summer.
