“Let me go” – Player now publicly request Tottenham to seal exit if they won’t play him
Tottenham Hotspur have turned down AC Milan’s offer for Emerson Royal, sparking questions about the Brazilian right-back’s future at the club. As the Serie A giants plan their next move, Emerson’s frustration over limited playing time under manager Ange Postecoglou has become evident.
Emerson Royal made 24 appearances for Tottenham last season, but only five were in his preferred right-back position. His dissatisfaction with his role was made clear in an interview with EPTV reporter Rodrigo Castro, relayed by Globo Esporte.
The 25-year-old expressed his desire for more playing time to regain his spot in the Brazilian national team, as he was left out of the Copa América squad by manager Dorival Júnior.
“I’ve always made it clear. Every player likes to play. I’m very competitive. It bothers me a lot to be on the bench,” Emerson said. “I was upset and said so to the coach.
But I’ve always been very professional. I’ve always been one of those who put the most intensity into training, but this situation doesn’t work for me, so I don’t know what my future will be.”
Emerson’s determination to play regularly is driven by his ambition to represent Brazil.
He believes that consistent club performances are crucial for national team selection. “I’m not a player who sits on the bench. I want to play. If it’s not here, I understand. But let me go somewhere where I can play,” he added.
AC Milan’s interest in Emerson has been long-standing, and their recent approach to Tottenham highlights their intent. Despite Tottenham’s rejection, Milan remains keen on the right-back.
Emerson acknowledged the interest from Milan, stating, “It’s a very special moment. To know that teams of this calibre want me. It was special when Barcelona came after me, I realised a dream. Milan is a reference point for us Brazilians. But I still don’t know about the future. I hope I can play again and join the national team.”
Emerson’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2026, but his future remains uncertain. His plea for playing time and potential move could shape the rest of his career. Should he leave Tottenham, Emerson admits he will miss his compatriot and teammate, Richarlison.
Tottenham’s decision to reject AC Milan’s offer for Emerson Royal is a significant move in their summer transfer strategy. The club must balance player satisfaction with squad depth and competitive performance.
Emerson’s situation highlights the challenges faced by clubs in managing player expectations and transfer negotiations.
Emerson Royal’s future at Tottenham Hotspur hangs in the balance as AC Milan continues to show interest. His desire for regular playing time and national team aspirations drive his plea for a move if not assured of a starting role at Tottenham.
As the transfer window progresses, Emerson’s situation will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike. His next move could significantly impact his career and Tottenham’s squad dynamics.
