He wants a move: Spurs in talks to sign £68M England star who’s similar to Musiala – opinion
Tottenham Hotspur have commenced their summer transfer window with strategic acquisitions, securing Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray for approximately £40 million and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden for £8.5 million.
These signings demonstrate manager Ange Postecoglou’s intent to build a promising squad ahead of the next Premier League season.
While the midfield has seen significant investment, Tottenham’s attention may now shift towards strengthening their attacking options to support Son Heung-min.
Son Heung-min had an impressive season, scoring 17 goals in 36 appearances. However, Tottenham’s next top scorer, Richarlison, netted only 12 goals in 31 appearances.
With only two players achieving double-digit goal tallies, Tottenham clearly needs additional firepower to boost their attacking capabilities.
Reports from GIVEMESPORT suggest that Tottenham is seriously considering a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.
The talented attacker is open to offers and has a release clause of £60 million, plus £8 million in add-ons. Tottenham has reportedly initiated talks with Eze’s agents to explore the terms of a potential deal.
In addition to Eze, Tottenham has shown interest in Rennes winger Desire Doue. However, the potential transfer fee for Doue, likely to be around £60 million, might deter Tottenham from pursuing him aggressively.
Balancing these financial considerations will be crucial for Tottenham as they strategize their summer signings.
Eberechi Eze could significantly enhance Tottenham’s attacking prowess. The 26-year-old England international scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 31 appearances for Crystal Palace last season.
Known for his creativity and ability to score from open play and set pieces, Eze’s addition could offer Tottenham a much-needed boost in the final third.
According to FBref’s compare feature, Eze and Germany’s Jamal Musiala are strikingly similar in their playing styles and qualities. Musiala, who previously played for Chelsea, made 38 appearances for Bayern Munich last season, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists. He also starred in all five of Germany’s Euro 2024 games, scoring three goals.
Both Eze and Musiala excel in the attacking third, creating chances for their teammates and finding opportunities to score.
Eze’s 11 goals and six assists for Palace were close to Musiala’s 12 goals and eight assists for Bayern, despite playing in a less dominant team.
Eze and Musiala are known for their dribbling skills and ability to beat opponents. Eze averages 3.02 successful take-ons per 90 minutes, while Musiala averages 4.07, placing him in the top 1% of wingers and attacking midfielders in Europe.
Musiala also averages 5.3 progressive carries per 90 minutes, nearly double Eze’s 2.98. These statistics reflect their strong ball-carrying abilities and impact in the final third.
The difference in their progressive carry stats can be attributed to the tactical setups of their respective teams. Musiala plays in a more ball-dominant Bayern Munich side, where breaking defensive lines through progressive carries is essential. In contrast, Crystal Palace often relied on counter-attacks, limiting Eze’s opportunities for progressive carries.
If Eze joins a possession-oriented team like Tottenham, he would likely have more opportunities to carry the ball and engage in 1v1 situations. This shift could significantly improve his metrics and overall goal contributions, making him a valuable asset for Tottenham.
Tottenham’s early summer signings reflect a proactive approach to squad building. While reinforcing the midfield with promising talents like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, Tottenham must now focus on enhancing their attacking options.
Eberechi Eze and Desire Doue are potential targets, with Eze’s creative spark and versatility offering a particularly enticing prospect.
By strategically balancing their investments, Tottenham can position themselves as strong contenders in the upcoming Premier League season, aiming for major trophies and Champions League qualification.
