Tottenham think £200k/week forward is a star in the making, may now sign him ahead of Barca
Barcelona and president Joan Laporta have made a pivotal decision regarding a £200,000-per-week forward, which may significantly benefit Tottenham Hotspur. Manager Ange Postecoglou is keen to bolster his attacking options following the signing of Timo Werner.
The Germany international recently extended his loan deal with Spurs, which now runs until the end of next season.
Werner’s initial signing was a smart move, with chairman Daniel Levy renegotiating his buy-option clause to just £8.5 million while securing the winger for another full campaign.
Despite only scoring two goals and providing three assists in the Premier League, Werner’s speed and positioning were invaluable to Postecoglou, despite occasional concerns about his finishing ability.
Tottenham’s best-performing players last season | Average match rating per 90 (WhoScored) |
---|---|
Son Heung-min | 7.30 |
James Maddison | 7.17 |
Pedro Porro | 7.04 |
Cristian Romero | 7.03 |
Dejan Kulusevski | 6.96 |
However, technical director Johan Lange and the recruitment team are expected to bring in more attacking talent.
Wolves star Pedro Neto is one of the names under consideration at Tottenham, though his injury history raises concerns.
Alternatives to the 24-year-old include Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who has recently been linked with a move to North London. Eze, who impressed enough to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros, has a £60 million release clause.
Another potential target is Spain star Nico Williams, who recorded an impressive 19 assists across all competitions for Athletic Bilbao last season. Williams has also shone at Euro 2024, attracting significant interest due to his talent and a £49 million release clause.
However, Williams commands high wages, already earning £200,000 per week at Bilbao. Barcelona’s decision to pull out of the race for Williams, reportedly due to his salary demands, opens the door for Premier League clubs.
According to Football Insider, Barcelona’s withdrawal makes the Premier League the most likely destination for Williams.
With Barcelona out of the picture, Tottenham have a potential opportunity to sign Williams.
Reports suggest that Williams preferred a move to Barcelona, but with that option off the table, Spurs could now be in a prime position. Tottenham are reportedly targeting Williams and see the young winger as a “star in the making.”
Adding Williams to Tottenham’s roster would significantly strengthen their attack. His ability to provide assists and create opportunities for teammates would complement the existing squad. Given Postecoglou’s emphasis on a dynamic and versatile attack, Williams could be the perfect fit.
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Nico Williams highlights their ambition to compete at the highest level. With Barcelona out of the race, Spurs have a real chance to secure a talented forward who could make a significant impact.
As the transfer window progresses, securing Williams would mark a major success for Tottenham and bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
