SkySport journalist – ‘Amazing’ player now keen to leave Tottenham this summer
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is keen to leave the club this summer, as Ange Postecoglou plans significant changes to the squad.
The Spurs boss aims to rebuild the midfield, and several players, including Giovani Lo Celso, Oliver Skipp, Bryan Gil, and Hojbjerg, are likely to depart.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Danish midfielder is eager to exit Spurs. Hojbjerg’s national teammate, Thomas Delaney, praised him as an “amazing” player and suggested that the 28-year-old would be a valuable addition to Borussia Dortmund. Hojbjerg himself has hinted at a possible move to Dortmund, stating, “we’ll talk about the rest” after his holidays.
Hojbjerg joined Tottenham in the summer of 2020 from Southampton and has made 184 appearances across all competitions.
Despite featuring in 39 games last season under Postecoglou, it is evident that he will not play a significant role in the upcoming season. With only 12 months left on his contract, it is time for Spurs to cash in on him, although they cannot expect a substantial fee.
The midfield overhaul has already begun, with Tanguy Ndombele leaving the club after a mutual termination of his contract. Hojbjerg could be the next high-profile departure.
If these midfielders are sold, Postecoglou will have Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, and Pape Matar Sarr left in the midfield. Additional new faces will be necessary to bolster the squad.
Tottenham will face more games next season due to their participation in the Europa League, necessitating a larger squad. The club has already signed Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, both highly talented midfielders, but they will need time to adapt to the Premier League’s pace and physicality.
Academy midfielders Tyrese Hall and Jamie Donley are seen as terrific prospects and are likely to be heavily involved in pre-season preparations. Their development will be crucial as Spurs look to build a strong and dynamic midfield for the future.
Tottenham continues to show interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze and Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
These potential signings could provide the quality and depth needed for a successful campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield is set for a significant transformation this summer. With key departures like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele, Ange Postecoglou is focused on rebuilding the squad with new talent.
The additions of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, along with promising academy prospects, signal a bright future for Spurs.
However, more signings will be necessary to ensure success in the upcoming season, especially with the increased demands of Europa League participation.
