Tottenham ready to pounce on £20M player who’s the ‘best defensive midfielder’ in his country – Journalist
Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a significant summer transfer window as manager Ange Postecoglou aims to bolster the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Following a period of improvement since the 2022/23 campaign, Spurs’ future looks promising under Postecoglou’s leadership. However, there remains a need to enhance the overall quality and depth of the team.
One area Tottenham is likely to focus on is the midfield, especially given the uncertain futures of key players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Strengthening this part of the squad is crucial for maintaining the team’s competitive edge.
Tottenham have set their sights on Fluminense star Andre Trindade, widely regarded as the “best defensive midfielder” in his country.
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Spurs have been monitoring Andre for several months, viewing him as a key target to enhance their midfield options.
Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Jacobs revealed that while Andre has a verbal agreement with Fulham, the deal may hinge on the future of Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.
Should Palhinha remain at Fulham, the door would be open for Tottenham to swoop in and secure Andre’s services.
“I would also add Fluminense’s Andre into the mix as well,” Jacobs stated. “Fulham basically have a verbal agreement, but if Joao Palhinha doesn’t leave, they won’t proceed. They nearly signed him in January, but Palhinha stayed. Now, flash forward to the summer, Fulham is in the box seat still, but until Palhinha is done, the door’s open to other suitors as well. I know that Tottenham have been looking at that player, including at the Club World Cup, for several months.”
Who is Andre Trindade?
Andre Trindade, a 22-year-old midfield talent, has already made a significant impact in Brazilian football. With 185 competitive appearances for Fluminense and five caps for Brazil, Andre has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Brazilian top flight.
Graeme Bailey, speaking on 90Min’s Talking Transfers podcast, highlighted Andre’s prowess: “Many people think he’s the best defensive midfielder in the Brazilian top flight at the moment.”
Additionally, football data expert Pranav described Andre on X as a “scaringly good controller of tempo,” a “10/10 recycler and ball winner,” and a player reminiscent of Thiago Alcantara and Georginio Wijnaldum.
According to Tuttosport, via Milan News, Andre is valued at €25 million (around £20 million), making him an attractive and affordable option for Tottenham. This price tag reflects a modest investment for a player with significant potential to elevate the team’s performance.
Integrating a player of Andre’s caliber into the Tottenham squad could provide the team with a much-needed boost in midfield stability and control.
His ability to manage the tempo of the game, combined with his defensive skills, would offer Spurs a versatile and dynamic presence on the field.
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Andre Trindade signals the club’s commitment to strengthening their squad with top-tier talent.
As the summer transfer window progresses, securing Andre would represent a strategic move to enhance the team’s midfield capabilities.
With Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou at the helm, Spurs are poised to make impactful acquisitions that could shape their competitive future.
Fans will be eagerly watching to see how this potential transfer unfolds and what it means for Tottenham’s ambitions in the upcoming season.
