£10m Brazilian says he’s desperate to play Champions League football after links to Tottenham

A midfielder linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer has now admitted that he’s desperate to play Champions League football.

Ange Postecoglou will have ambitious plans to improve his Spurs side before the new season, hoping that Daniel Levy and his team can execute his shortlist.

Right now it seems as if Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze is at the top of Tottenham’s list, a midfielder who would suit Postecoglou’s football perfectly.

However, given the fee that will inevitably be attached to any deal and interest Eze also has elsewhere, Tottenham can’t simply rely on that deal coming to fruition.

Spurs will have a number of targets under the microscope, all intended to craft a squad that is much more in Postecoglou’s image.

Anticipating a squad overhaul in north London may be a little bit too far, but several players are expected to come and go, to reach the end goal described.

And one of the players who has been tipped to join Tottenham is Fulham attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira.

Tottenham linked Andreas Pereira says he wants Champions League football

Formerly of Manchester United, Pereira is currently away with the Brazilian national team ahead of Copa America commencing.

And speaking in an interview with Lance before the tournament, Pereira admitted that his ambition is to play in the Champions League.

The Fulham man admitted his future was uncertain, but says his focus was with Brazil for now.

Pereira said: “It’s difficult. I’m focused on the Copa América. I want to win a title with the national team.

“I’ve waited a long time to be here, so I’m enjoying the moment. Regarding my future, of course I’m anxious, but I think I’ll leave it until after the Copa América is over and I’ll definitely let you know.

“I want to play in the Champions League. The biggest championships in football. I definitely have this as a goal in my head. Where it will be I haven’t decided yet.”

Andreas Pereira is a smart alternative to Eberechi Eze. The term ‘underrated’ is often used too often in football today, but Pereira does fall into that category.

Costing Fulham £10m in 2022, the Brazilian would likely cost double that fee now, but could still present a very cost-effective signing.

Pereira has all the tactical traits and versatility of a Postecoglou player, someone who could dovetail well with James Maddison.

And although Eze should still be first choice, Pereira would definitely represent a smart alternative, if Tottenham can convince him of their path to the Champions League.

All that being said, Tottenham are said to be considering involving Radu Dragusin in a swap deal this summer.
