Levy urged to sell £55m star who has been a “complete disaster”
Tottenham Hotspurs Chairman, Daniel Levy, has been urged to sell midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who has been labeled a “complete disaster” by respected voices within the club’s community.
John Wenham, host of the popular Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, highlighted Lo Celso’s underwhelming tenure at Tottenham and recommended his departure, citing potential interest from Spanish clubs.

Wenham’s critique of Lo Celso is rooted in the midfielder’s inability to make a significant impact at Tottenham. Despite his performances for Argentina, Wenham emphasized that Lo Celso’s contributions in a Tottenham shirt have been lacking.
He noted, “Lo Celso has been a complete disaster for Tottenham. I’m not interested in what he can do for Argentina; I only care about what he does in a Tottenham shirt.”
Reports suggest that Real Betis, one of Lo Celso’s former clubs, is interested in bringing him back to Spain. Betis appears poised to lose key midfielder Nabil Fekir and sees Lo Celso as a suitable replacement.
Wenham commented on this development, stating, “I’m sure he would excel there; I just don’t think the Premier League is suited for him. Therefore, the best possible thing would be to get him out of the club.”
New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou does not see Lo Celso as part of his future plans. With just one year remaining on his contract, it is strategically prudent for Tottenham to sell Lo Celso now rather than risk losing him for free next year.
Extending his contract appears unlikely, making a summer transfer the most viable option to recoup some of the substantial £55 million investment made in 2019 under Mauricio Pochettino.
Selling Lo Celso would offer several benefits to Tottenham, both financially and tactically. His inconsistent performances and injury issues have prevented him from securing a regular starting role, disrupting Tottenham’s midfield stability.
Offloading him would free up significant funds that could be reinvested in more critical areas, such as acquiring a reliable striker or strengthening the defense
Interest from clubs like Atletico Madrid and Real Betis could facilitate Lo Celso’s departure. Betis has reportedly already initiated contact with the Argentine midfielder. To accommodate Lo Celso, Betis would need to create space in their squad, likely through the departure of Fekir.
Overall, selling Giovani Lo Celso appears to be a necessary move for Tottenham Hotspur. It would allow the club to streamline their squad, improve team balance, and free up resources to pursue other transfer targets.
Additionally, a move back to Spain could offer Lo Celso a fresh start and the opportunity to revive his career in a more suitable environment.
