As Abraham enters the final 24 months of his contract, Roma have now decided to look for buyers.

Sources inform TBR Football that Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham are also monitoring the Roma No.9’s situation, as they feel he represents excellent value at £28m – as do Spurs.

Feyenoord’s Mexico international Santiago Gimenez has been Tottenham’s leading striker target so far this summer, although attention could now turn to Abraham – who Roma No.7 Lorenzo Pellegrini described as “one of the best strikers in the world” – after the £28m price tag was discovered.

Spurs must do their homework

Of course, the chance to sign an England international – who is just 26 years of age – for only £28m is understandably tempting Tottenham, but Spurs must do their due diligence and explore why Roma have made this decision.

If there is a chance that Abraham suffers frequent reoccurrences of his serious injury, this deal would prove to be a nightmare for Spurs – regardless of the price.

Ange Postecoglou was unfortunate not to have some of his key men available at pivotal moments last season, as Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Richarlison all missed large chunks of the campaign.

Even Oliver Skipp – a natural central midfielder – had to be trained to play on the left of defence last season, amid injuries.

Therefore, if Tottenham sign another player who may not always be available in Abraham, it could simply leave Spurs hunting for another striker in 2025.
