Ben Davies opens up honestly about Tottenham’s lack of trophies, and when they will win

Ben Davies has been vocal about his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s journey, their trophy ambitions, and what lies ahead for the club.

His insights reveal the challenges Spurs face and the potential for future success under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Ben Davies has expressed optimism about Tottenham’s future, despite a challenging season. Initially, few expected Spurs to contend for a title in Postecoglou’s first year.

However, after ten games, it looked like Tottenham might defy expectations and challenge for a title. This optimism was soon tempered by a string of injuries and a tough defeat to Chelsea in November, which derailed their progress.

The latter half of the season proved difficult for Tottenham. An inconsistent run of form prevented them from securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. Ultimately, Spurs ended the season in fifth place, earning a spot in the Europa League but missing out on the coveted Champions League places.

The team also had a disappointing run in domestic cup competitions, resulting in another trophyless season.

Despite these setbacks, Ben Davies remains hopeful. In an interview with the Business of Sport podcast, he emphasized that the club is determined to break its trophy drought. “I think the thing we’re always going to have put back at us is lack of trophies and that’s far from the want of trying. It’s been something that we’ve been desperate to do for a long time, but it’s the biggest thing that we all want at this club,” Davies explained.

Davies highlighted the significant changes Tottenham has undergone in recent years, including the move to a new stadium and the temporary stint at Wembley.

He believes these transitions have laid a solid foundation for future success. “It can be very frustrating for us as players but at the same time, you always appreciate that the club has gone through a lot of change.

We’ve moved stadium, we spent a couple of years at Wembley. It all felt a bit crazy at the time but I really feel like we’ve built that foundation now,” Davies said.

Davies acknowledged the difficulties in achieving sustained success in the highly competitive Premier League. He reflected on the challenges of building a successful team, stating, “Just spending the biggest money doesn’t guarantee you the results. It’s about building that team and getting it right. It’s probably the hardest thing to do in sport.”

The transformation under Ange Postecoglou has been significant, with a renewed focus on team ethos and long-term success.

Tottenham’s commitment to this new philosophy could be the key to finally ending their trophy drought. Davies is confident that, with continued dedication to Postecoglou’s vision, trophies are on the horizon for Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent seasons have been marked by both promise and frustration. Despite missing out on top-tier silverware, the club’s efforts to build a strong foundation suggest a bright future.

Ben Davies’ optimism and belief in the club’s direction under Ange Postecoglou reflect a shared sentiment among players and fans alike.

The journey to achieving sustained success in the Premier League and beyond is fraught with challenges.

However, with a solid foundation and a clear vision, Tottenham Hotspur is poised to overcome these obstacles and achieve their long-awaited success. As the club continues to evolve and grow, the promise of future trophies becomes ever more attainable.
