8 goals in 10 days for young Spurs forward, could Ange's head be turning?

Even when Timo Werner’s loan was extended last week, most of the discussion over the Hotspur Way boardroom’s recruiting plan will undoubtedly revolve on offensive possibilities.

But could Daniel Levy, Ange Postecoglou, and technical director Johan Lange possibly check the fridge before venturing into the competitive and lucrative European and global markets?

Perhaps a bit of Parrott, my dear sirs?

Troy Parrott has had an eventful two weeks. The young Irishman, who is on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie, scored a hat trick against Den Haag in the second round of the league’s relegation playoffs.

Three days later, he scored a consolation goal in the first leg of the third round to give his team a tiny opportunity in the second leg.

Excelsior’s chances of avoiding relegation were boosted when Parrott scored his second hattrick in little over a week, tying the game at 6-6 before NAC Breda delivered a late dagger to send them down.

Two days after those dramatic circumstances, the 22-year-old gets called to the Republic of Ireland bench for Tuesday night’s international friendly against Hungary in Dublin.

Parrott was added on 62 minutes, with the score at 1-1.

The few in attendance at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium could see that the Spurs loanee was full of confidence, as he tried to continuously rush at defenders while playing in his less-favored wide right position.

Then, with almost the final kick of the game, the ball broke to Parrott after an Irish push. He went free to go one-on-one with the keeper, delivering a shot off the keeper’s foot that bounced into the Hungarian goal, but not the cleanest by his standards.

The dreary event in Dublin rain on Tuesday marked the conclusion of Parrott’s most successful senior season. Despite Rotterdam’s relegation, the Spurs player contributed 23 goals and assists in the Eredivisie. (Transfermarkt).

For comparison, that’s just six less goals in one fewer appearance than £40 million-rated Santiago Gimenez, who has been linked with a transfer to N17 after being sighted at April’s North London derby (football.london).

Parrott, who joined from Irish schoolboy club Belvedere in 2017, was widely regarded as the successor to Harry Kane’s throne after demonstrating outstanding qualities in the UEFA Youth Champions League.

Since then, he has spent time in the Championship and League One, with varying success owing to injuries and form.

After missing Tottenham’s preseason due to injury last season, he ultimately made the switch to the Dutch top division.

Of course, Spurs supporters may make both sides of the Parrott/Gimenez debate, and maybe the whole Eredivisie, null and worthless, given the enthusiasm and subsequent disappointment of one Vincent Janssen, who was recruited to offer backup for Harry Kane in the summer of 2016.

However, considering Parrott’s age, enthusiasm, and readiness to change his style, may Postecoglou give him an opportunity to prove his value this preseason?

Furthermore, Parrott is now one of just four club-grown senior players, after the release of Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, and Eric Dier this week.
