James Garner on the Verge of joining Spurs while Everton hope they could tying the midfielder down
Everton are confident of tying midfield star James Garner down to a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (3 June) that the Merseysiders have opened talks with Garner, 23, over a potential renewal.
The ex-Man United star’s current deal is up in June 2026, but Everton and manager Sean Dyche are keen to reward his progress with an extended agreement.
It is believed the club are also moving to ward off interest from other Premier League clubs.
Sources told Football Insider in February that Tottenham and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Garner after his performances for Everton.
The England Under-21 international played on both flanks, in holding midfield and in a box-to-box role for Everton this season.
He made 44 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, starting in 41 of those outings.
Everton have now opened talks with the midfielder despite ongoing financial concerns at the club and the collapse of 777 Partners’ takeover in recent days.
The Toffees paid Man United a reported fee of £15million two years ago to land Garner following an impressive loan spell with Nottingham Forest.
He was one of Dyche’s most crucial first-teamers in the 2023-24 campaign – with only James Tarkowski, Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite playing more minutes.
