Spurs in talks to sign £60m-rated “Phil Foden” incarnate

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to sign a £60m-rated player likened to Manchester City forward Phil Foden, according to a recent report.

Spurs ended the Premier League campaign in fifth and there were clear signs of progression in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge.

Now, the Australian boss and his club chiefs will be preparing for the fast-approaching summer transfer window.

That said, it seems they’ve already identified one target and have started talks.

Tottenham Hotspur in talks to sign Georgiy Sudakov

According to the Daily Express, Tottenham are in talks to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov.

Chelsea are also thought to be interested in signing the 21-year-old, who has been likened to City playmaker Foden.

North London rivals Arsenal have previously held an interest in Sudakov but it appears Spurs have stolen a march on his signature.

Shakhtar rejected a £34m proposal from Napoli during the winter window and aren’t expected to sanction a sale before the Euro’s – when his price tag could rise.

Sudakov is thought to be valued at around £60m.

The two-footed playmaker netted 10 times whilst laying on six assists last term, operating as a number 10, a number eight and even as a left-midfielder.

As per FBref, Sudakov ranks in the top 14 per cent for non-penalty xG and top 20 per cent for progressive carries compared to his positional peers across the big five leagues.

Further, he sits in the top 23 per cent for shot-creating actions, evincing his terrific playmaking ability.

If Spurs are to land his signature this summer, they’ll be getting a very creative midfielder.
