Lucas Bergvall reveals why he chose Tottenham over Barcelona
On the last day of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur made a big move by getting highly-rated Swedish player Lucas Bergvall from Djurgardens IF.
Spurs signed the 18-year-old wonderkid to a five-year deal. The transfer fee was said to be €10 million.
Barcelona was thought to be the choice to sign him, but Tottenham beat them to the player’s signing, and he chose to join the North London club over the Spanish giants.
People say that Johan Lange, who was just hired as technical head of Tottenham, was very important in making the deal happen.
Now the player has said why he picked Tottenham over Barcelona.
He told The Athletic the following:
“Deco and I were having dinner in the mountains when we looked out and saw 150 people trying to get in.”
They were following us as we got into a cab and drove into the city. We switched cars in a garage.
“That day was crazy.” When I got home, I had to make a choice, but Tottenham was always my first choice.
It’s fun to watch them play football because they’re so good. A great job is being done by Ange.
“When you look at the team, you get the sense that they’re trying new things and building something.”
TBH Says: Bergvall’s words show how much more powerful Ange Postecoglou is becoming at Tottenham. Postecoglou has done a lot to restore the club’s character and play an appealing style of football since he took over.
This, along with his respect for helping young players grow and making them part of the first team, has made Tottenham a desirable place for many up-and-coming stars to play.
Tottenham is moving in a good way under Postecoglou’s leadership, as shown by the signings of players like Bergvall.
The fact that the club was able to sign such talented players shows that they have new goals and are planning ahead for the future.
