‘I saw it’: Ange Postecoglou finally opens up he wasn’t happy with one Tottenham player did vs Man City
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has commented on how one of his players acted during the game against Manchester City.
Spurs lost 2-0 at home against the champions on Tuesday night. Postecoglou was dissatisfied with numerous aspects of the game, which he addressed after the defeat.
Now, ahead of the season’s last match, the Australian has issued his judgement on one of his players’ actions against Manchester City.
Ange Postecoglou indicates he wasn’t pleased with Rodrigo Bentancur’s violent response.
Tottenham’s loss against Manchester City was their fifth in six games.
Spurs’ dismal sequence of results, which included losses to Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and City, lost them a spot in the Champions League next season.
Tottenham, on the other hand, deserve credit for their performance against Pep Guardiola’s team.
Spurs were the superior side for most of the game and might have easily earned a point if Heung-min Son had converted his opportunity when he ran through on goal.
However, the Korean missed, and Tottenham lost.
One instance during the game made some headlines. Rodrigo Bentancur was unhappy after being replaced in the second half.
He was spotted stomping the bench in fury, and Postecoglou openly said after the game that he didn’t observe or care about the behaviour.
When questioned about the incident again on Friday, the Australian conceded that Bentancur should not have behaved the way he did.
According to Football London, he said: “Yeah, I saw it, and we discussed it. He was furious, but I don’t believe that’s how you respond.
“He understands that but it wasn’t the biggest issue of the night for me, that’s for sure.”
When asked what Bentancur was upset about, Postecoglou said, “Well, he just wants to win, and he wanted to be out there helping the team win.” He had a strong desire to battle.
Bentancur made a mistake, which cost Tottenham
Rodrigo Bentancur had a superb performance against Manchester City.
The Tottenham midfielder was terrific on the ball, created some issues for the visitors, and almost scored a great goal early on.
However, after receiving a yellow card, Bentancur found himself in a situation in which he could not commit another significant offence.
As a consequence, the Uruguayan backed off a tackle on Phil Foden, which resulted to Erling Haaland’s first goal.
That, among other things, cost Tottenham the game, which is a pity since they might have earned a point on Tuesday.
