Spurs hit gold on “frightening” Nuno signing who’s now worth more than Son & Trossard

Postecoglou, Son, Spurs, and Tottenham
Before Ange Postecoglou took over, Tottenham Hotspur had not had a lot of luck with managers.

After Mauricio Pochettino left, Daniel Levy hired José Mourinho. But after less than two years, it was clear that the “Special One” wasn’t quite as special anymore, and after a short time with Ryan Mason, Nunu Espírito Santo, another Portuguese coach, was brought in.

The former Chelsea manager didn’t do very well in N17, but he was there for at least two seasons.

While Nuno was fired after only a few bad months on the job, he did make one good choice, as the value of a player he brought in during his short time in charge has gone through the roof in the last couple of years.

Pape Matar Sarr’s time with Spurs

Pape Matar Sarr is the player in question. He is Senegalese and plays middle. He joined Nuno’s Lilywhites team from FC Metz in Ligue 1 in August 2021 for about £15 million.

The next season, when he was 18, the young player went on loan to the French team and played 34 times for the first team, scoring one goal and setting up three others. He then joined Antonio Conte’s Spurs for the 22/23 season.

The extremely skilled playmaker would have to wait until January 1st to make his start with the first team while the Italian was in charge.

In a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, he came off the bench. But in the North London Derby two weeks later, he started his first game as a full player, at the base of the middle.

At the end of the season, he had played 14 times for the adult team and had his first goal. The club was in a bad spot after Conte was fired, but fans held on to him as a sign of hope.

The 21-year-old has become a much more regular member of the team this year thanks to Postecoglou’s careful coaching. With one game left in the season, he has played 34 times for Australia and has scored three goals and set up three others.

The club was so pleased with the kid’s skills that they gave him a brand-new £70,000-a-week deal in January that keeps him in N17 until June 2030.

The star player from Thiaroye is so good at football that U23 scout Antonio Mango was right when he said he was “so good at it it’s scary.”

The midfielder’s value has recently gone through the roof, which is understandable given his great form and potential. Right now, he’s worth more than some truly great players.

How much Pape Matar Sarr is worth in 2024

This is how much Sarr is worth now: €50m, which is about £43m, or £28m more than what Spurs paid for him in 2021.

What’s even better is that his new value makes him the most important player in the club, worth more than both Son Heung-min and Leandro Trossard.

CIES says the leader of the Lilywhites is worth €30m, which is £26m. The Belgian custodian for the Gunners is worth €40m, which is £34m, but still £9m less than the Senegalese player.

The South Korean has scored 17 goals and set up 9 others in 35 games, while the former Brighton & Hove Albion player has scored 17 goals and set up 2 others in 45 games. This price difference is probably more due to their ages than their success this season.

For example, Son is 31 years old and Trossard will be 30 this year. This means that, no matter how good they are right now, they won’t be very valuable when they’re time to sell, because their performance will start to drop off quickly. This is because, according to The Athletic’s research into when players peak by position, wingers reach their peak at age 26.

Ultimately, Sarr is a real gem for Spurs. He’s not quite having the same effect on games as his captain is right now, but his importance to Postecoglou’s method is only going to grow, and his skyrocketing value is proof of that.
