Thanks to Sam Archer, Ange Postecoglou has another young custodian prospect at Tottenham who looks very good.

For North London players like Josh Keeley and Luca Gunter, this has been a big year.

Spurs’ Under-21 goalkeepers have both shown they are good at different times. Now it looks like Archer, the club’s Under-18 shot-stopper, might also be a talent to keep an eye on.

Tottenham’s Under-18s beat Arsenal’s Under-18s 3-2 in a thrilling North London match on May 4, and Archer was a big part of the win.

The youth team played a great game and got some much-needed payback for last week’s loss by the first team.

In just 22 seconds, Callum Olusesi scored the first goal. However, the Gunners turned the game around and went ahead 2-1 at Hotspur Way in the second half.

A goal in the 86th minute from Damola Ajayi tied the game, and a goal in extra time from Han Willhoft-King gave the home team all three points and a double over their biggest foes in the Under-18 Premier League.

The win over Arsenal was made possible in large part by Archer.

Just before the hour mark, Arsenal was given a spot kick. Archer went up and made a “excellent” save on Michal Rosiak. He then got down low to turn away a header from the corner (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 4 May).

Even though he wasn’t able to stop a second spot kick or Rosiak’s 20-yard shot that went past the 17-year-old, Archer was there again when Spurs took the lead again.

At the very end of the game, when Arsenal was trying to tie the game, the goalie stayed alert and made a couple of smart saves.

Due to the fact that Archer is still 18 years old, he clearly has a long way to go, but after what he did against Arsenal, the early signs are very good.

  1. I agree with everything you’ve said in your post; it’s clear that they’re all very persuasive and will work. Nevertheless, the posts are too short for newcomers; could you maybe make them a little longer the next time? I’m grateful for the post.
