Eric Dier says something ‘very strange’ happened against Arsenal which nobody is talking about

Tuesday night’s blockbuster game between Arsenal and Bayern Munich was spoiled by controversial officiating once again.

In the last seconds of the match, Bayern Munich scored a penalty of their own and Arsenal was denied a spot kick.

But there were a couple more moments throughout the match that maybe ought to have been mentioned, and Eric Dier claims that the referee made a very odd call that no one is discussing.

“I believe there ought to have been a fine. What do you suppose I’m arguing against? It’s odd that no one brought out Raya’s passing of the ball to Gabriel. It was an odd circumstance because he passed the ball like a goal kick, the referee blew the whistle, he passed the ball, and Gabriel grabbed it up.

After a goal kick was taken, Gabriel did seem to pick up the ball, but fortunately, common sense won out in this instance.

Gabriel was obviously taken aback by the referee’s whistle, so he put the ball down to resume play without attempting to get an unfair advantage.

Although Bayern Munich may have desired a penalty, this isn’t the purpose of the game.

It’s a ridiculous event that you could catch if you were really picky, but in the end, it goes against the spirit of the game and the correct decision was taken in this case. It’s almost like a Mankad in cricket.

Dier is entitled to express annoyance, but it would also be quite disappointing if anything like this determined such a close call.
