Tottenham set to make £15.2M loss on fantastic player, he is not happy under Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur appears willing to part ways with Bryan Gil for a bargain fee of £5.2 million, underscoring Ange Postecoglou’s approach of offloading surplus players rather than retaining them as dead weight.

Since Postecoglou’s arrival, several players, including Harry Winks, Davinson Sanchez, Sergio Reguilon, Tanguy Ndombele, and Joe Rodon, were deemed surplus to requirements and sold last summer, streamlining the squad amid Tottenham’s absence from European competitions during the 2023-24 season.

Despite this trend, Postecoglou opted to retain Bryan Gil at Spurs last summer.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact, managing just 42 appearances in three years and being loaned out to Valencia and Sevilla, his former club.

Gil’s playing time diminished further following the arrival of Timo Werner, with him being excluded from the matchday squad for the last six Premier League games, reportedly leaving him discontent.

According to Spanish outlet Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, Tottenham is now prepared to part ways with Gil for a significantly reduced fee of £5.2 million, a stark contrast to Postecoglou’s previous praise of the player as “fantastic.”

Such a move would represent a substantial financial loss for Spurs, who paid £21.6 million in cash for Gil’s signing in 2021, resulting in a £15.4 million deficit on his sale.

It is likely that Gil will return to Spain, with Sevilla potentially interested in reacquiring the player they nurtured through their academy.

Valencia, where Gil impressed during his loan spell, could also be interested, alongside other Spanish clubs.

Real Sociedad reportedly held talks to sign Gil in January, indicating further interest from Spanish sides.

While it remains uncertain if any English clubs will pursue the winger, his modest price tag is expected to attract several suitors as he seeks to reignite his career back home.
