Tottenham interested in deal with Daniel Levy set to totally correct Pochettino error

Tottenham Hotspur might be considering rectifying a past mistake made during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure when the transfer window reopens later this year.

Pochettino, who is currently managing Chelsea, oversaw the departure of Marcus Edwards from Spurs, and reports suggest that Tottenham could seek to bring the forward back to the club this summer.

According to A Bola, Tottenham is among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Edwards’ situation at Sporting CP in Portugal.

While Sporting prefers to retain the forward, who is contracted until 2026, they are open to selling him in the upcoming transfer window if the right offer is made.

Initially reported to have a release clause of £52 million, it’s now suggested that Sporting could consider offers in the region of £20 million for Edwards. Crystal Palace is another top-flight club reportedly interested in the 25-year-old forward.

Regardless of the potential cost, re-signing Edwards could be viewed as a costly oversight for Tottenham, considering he emerged from the club’s academy.

Despite spending 13 years at Spurs, Edwards made only one senior appearance, featuring in an EFL Cup third-round match against Gillingham in 2016.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino once commented on Edwards’ potential, stating: “He’s small, he’s left-footed… He is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player, but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player. But now it’s how he builds his future, that’s very important. And it’s our responsibility to tell him.”

In the summer of 2019, Edwards departed England for Primeira Liga side Vitoria de Guimaraes. After impressing in Portugal, he made a move to Sporting in January 2022, accumulating 46 goal contributions in 104 matches for the Lions in the Portuguese top flight.
