He is on the list too: Spurs likely to sign £43M star over Raphinha, who’s better than Mbappe – journalist

Tottenham Hotspur has been the subject of numerous transfer rumors, particularly regarding the acquisition of Raphinha from Barcelona.

However, another winger seems more likely to make the move to Spurs this summer.

While Ange Postecoglou has achieved remarkable progress with Tottenham this season, reinforcements are still needed from the transfer market to elevate the team further.

Spurs are anticipated to be active in the upcoming transfer window, particularly in bolstering their attacking options, with the acquisition of a new winger a priority.

Among the names linked with a move to Tottenham is Raphinha, but another rapid wide player appears to be the more probable option.

According to journalist Dean Jones, Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is a likelier signing for Spurs than the Barcelona winger.

Jones explained: “I’m not very expectant over Raphinha, even though Tottenham are interested in him. They have a few like him on their list but I get the feeling he is on it more in hope than expectation.”

He added: “I have a feeling that if Spurs sign a player from La Liga it might be more likely they try for Nico Williams. He’s on the list too and actually might be a better fit at a better price.”

While Raphinha is undoubtedly a talented winger with Premier League experience, there are several reasons why Williams might be a better fit for Tottenham.

Firstly, Williams possesses exceptional speed, even surpassing that of Raphinha and Kylian Mbappe, making him well-suited to Postecoglou’s system.

Secondly, Williams can be acquired for a significantly lower fee of £43 million, compared to the substantial price tag attached to Raphinha, who is reportedly attracting interest from Al-Hilal with a bid of £86 million.

Lastly, at 21 years old, Williams is six years younger than Raphinha, suggesting a higher potential ceiling and greater room for development under Postecoglou at Spurs.
