Postecoglou defends plastic Spurs fans amid rise in season ticket prices

In the midst of criticism over the Premier League team’s decision to raise season ticket prices, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou said that overseas fans had the same right as domestic fans to attend games in person.

The Tottenham Supporters Trust referred to the club’s announcement earlier this month that season ticket prices will rise by 6% as “hugely disappointing.”

Postecoglou responded to reporters yesterday when they were asked whether Premier League teams were raising costs to attract more international fans. “You see, that’s pretty harsh.”

“I’ll tell you why: I’m definitely “plastic” and “tourist,” since I’m a huge football fan from the other side of the globe, and seeing a Premier League match would be the highlight of my life.

“This football team has fans all across the globe, including those in the UK who aren’t always able to attend local games.”
