Real Madrid to raid Tottenham for 25yr old mainstay with €65 million table market value

Reports say that Real Madrid will try to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur. Romero is a 25-year-old Argentine player.

A story from the Spanish news site Fichajes says that Real Madrid is interested in signing Cristian Romero. A center back is something the Merengues want to get during the summer transfer window. And they have added the Tottenham Hotspur center back to their list of players they want.

Cristian Romero has come a long way since he moved from Atalanta to Tottenham Hotspur. The North London club signed the Argentine international on loan in August 2021, and a year later, they made the deal official. In the last two and a half years, he has been one of the best players in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has also had success on the world stage. With Argentina, he won the Copa America and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. During his time with Tottenham, his market value has soared to €65 million. As of now, Romero has scored four goals in 23 games this 2023–24 season, which is brilliant.

One of the main reasons why Ange Postecoglou has been able to help Tottenham get back on track is the World Cup winner. Meanwhile, Romero’s progress has not gone unnoticed. Several big teams, including Real Madrid, are interested in him.

Real Madrid wants Romero

The big Spanish teams have been interested in Cristian Romero for a long time. They first noticed him when he was playing in Italy. Real Madrid’s continued desire to sign the Argentine defender makes sense, since they are looking for a top-notch center back before the summer transfer window opens.

David Alaba will come back from a long-term knee surgery in the 2024–25 season. In addition, Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Nacho are all over 30 years old. Nacho is in the last six months of his Real Madrid deal. So, a number of center backs, including Willian Pacho, have caught the attention of Real Madrid. Romero is also a possible target.

The Argentine player is very good, so he could be a good long-term addition to Real Madrid’s team. But Tottenham is likely to play spoiler because they may not want to let go of someone who was very important to Ange Postecoglou’s idea in its early stages.
