I don’t mean this disrespectfully: Paul Merson makes fresh Tottenham claim live on Sky last night

This season, Tottenham Hotspur will have a big impact on who wins the Premier League.

On Sunday, Ange Postecoglou and his team showed how strong they were in attack by beating Aston Villa 4-0, who are also in the top four.

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are the top three teams in the Premier League. They still have to visit Hotspur Way or play host to them before the end of the season.

However, Paul Merson believes that all three teams will want to play the team that is chasing the Champions League because they will make the game more open. He said this on Soccer Special on Sky Sports (12/03/24 at 7:10 pm).

“I don’t mean this disrespectfully,” the former Arsenal player said, but he also doesn’t think teams that are trying to win the title are afraid of Tottenham.

When playing the teams back-to-back, Spurs has never lost to any of them, including beating Liverpool in that controversial game.

And because this is the North London game and Pep Guardiola has a bad record against Tottenham, it wouldn’t be surprising if something unexpected happens.

Spurs will play Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City.

He said, “I think Daws (Michael Dawson) with the Tottenham one, and I don’t mean that as an insult to Tottenham.”

“All three would want to play Tottenham because they’d be competitive.” They don’t have to split up 10 players and have everyone sit behind the ball like Brentford does. It takes a lot of work. No matter who they play, Tottenham will come and put up a fight.

“I believe that works for all three teams. I understand that you think they might win one of the games. I don’t think any of them will be scared to play Tottenham, and I don’t mean that in a bad way—Tottenham are a good team. It helps them out.

“I think they will, I really believe that (get points against the top three)—I think they will look at that, the three teams—Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal—and think<”we can lose this game. They could win it without much trouble, as you said. I believe they will be scared, though.

How Spurs play football

For Postecoglou, the most important thing is that his key players are healthy and ready for these games.

Fans have seen what happens when a few of them get hurt; the club’s way of play, which is with their feet forward and no fear, can cause problems.

Micky van de Ven got hurt against Aston Villa and had to leave the game. Fans are hoping it was just a precaution with the Dutchman because he is so important to the team’s high line.
