Pundit believes Spurs made a mistake selling one player who would have flourished under Postecoglou

Jamie O’Hara, a former Spurs player who is now a commentator, thinks Ange Postecoglou would have been a great coach for Harry Winks.

Last summer, Harry Winks departed to sign with Leicester City. A reported €11.6 million was paid to the Championship team for the midfielder’s move, who inked a three-year deal.

After being affiliated with Spurs since he was five years old, the academy graduate made the decision to separate ways with the team.

Winks has been a vital member of his new team under Enzo Maresca’s direction, making 33 appearances in the English second division and keeping Leicester City six points ahead of the opposition in the Championship standings.

The defensive midfielder may have been a great asset under Postecoglou’s guidance, according to English football manager and radio broadcaster Jamie O’Hara, despite the player’s good achievements this season.

O’Hara said in an interview with Grosvenor Sport (via Spurs Web):

“I think Harry Winks is a really good player; I’ve always enjoyed him.” He struggled at Tottenham and I believe Antonio Conte sent him away because he wasn’t his kind of player, but I’ll tell you what—if he was there right now with Ange Postecoglou, he would be on the pitch!

“He plays in midfield with enthusiasm and is an Ange-type player; he retains the ball and tries to pass forward. The fact that I believe Winks is a superior player than Oliver Skipp means that I would have retained him at Tottenham.

“He’s proven his abilities and has been a terrific addition for Leicester.” “This is a Premier League club, I probably have to suffer for a season in the Championship, but this is my route to starting regularly in the Premier League,” he undoubtedly thought to himself as he entered.

Winks, who came up through the Lilywhites’ youth system, started working out with the first squad in 2013–14. After studying films of his play, Mauricio Pochettino signed him, impressed by his performances.

Winks made a successful comeback the next season, scoring significant goals and securing a position in the Champions League Final against Liverpool, despite suffering injuries throughout the 2017–18 campaign.
