Reports from Spain claim Barcelona have received a €65 million bid for Ferran Torres, a player Premier League fans still remember from his time at Manchester City.
Torres arrived at the Etihad as a bright, technical winger and made an immediate impact, scoring seven league goals during the 2020/21 season as City went on to win the Premier League title. Although his early form was promising, injuries reduced his minutes and eventually led to his move abroad.
Barcelona signed him in January 2022 for around €55 million, and since then he has become a familiar face in their attack. He has passed the 100-appearance mark, contributed to two La Liga title wins, and scored more than 30 goals across all competitions.
Despite occasional dips in form, the club still view him as an important part of their squad, especially because he offers cover for Robert Lewandowski and brings versatility across the front line.
The supposed €65 million offer has triggered serious discussion inside Barcelona’s boardroom. On one hand, it is a large sum of money at a time when the club’s financial situation is still fragile.
On the other hand, Torres has been key to their strong start this season, and selling him now could leave a gap they cannot afford. People close to the club suggest the leadership is leaning toward rejecting the bid and instead focusing on renewing his contract. Nothing has been made official yet, but the feeling is that Barcelona are not ready to let him leave.
In England, the report has naturally been linked with Tottenham, especially after claims that Thomas Frank admires Torres’ flexibility and sees him as someone who could adapt quickly to the Premier League.

According to Fichajes, some at Spurs believe Torres represents a safe investment and brings the level of quality they are trying to add. If Barcelona hesitate, Tottenham are expected to keep pushing.
Whether this is a smart move is another question. Tottenham have spent heavily in recent years, and several of those signings have failed to make a lasting impact.
The hope now is that with Daniel Levy stepping back from day-to-day decisions and the Lewis family wanting to re-shape the club, Spurs will start making cleaner, more football-focused choices.
Investing big money in a player who did not fully shine in the Premier League the first time around will raise eyebrows. Some will argue Torres has improved since leaving City and that he now has the maturity and confidence to succeed.
Others will say Tottenham have a long history of spending large fees without the proper due diligence, and that Torres could easily join the long list of players who arrived with promise but never lived up to expectations.
For now, nothing is settled. Barcelona must decide whether they value the cash more than the player, and Tottenham must decide whether taking this gamble is worth repeating past mistakes.
The situation could move quickly, but the underlying question remains the same: is Ferran Torres the upgrade Spurs are looking for, or simply another expensive risk?
