Newcastle told to pay £42m if they want to sign ‘sensational’ midfielder ahead of Tottenham
Although Newcastle United wants fresh additions this summer, they will have to pay a large fee to get one top midfield target.
Having seen his side devastated by injury last season and then losing out on European football, Eddie Howe is eager to add to his team.
For Howe, a new midfielder comes first. Bruno Guimaraes from Arsenal and Man City piques curiosity; Sandro Tonali is still banned.
Now, the Newcastle manager is hopeful his board can find a player of appropriate quality to enter the first XI.
But sources from Italy indicate that signing one major target would cost more over £40 million.
Newcastle must spend £42 million to get Ederson from Atalanta.
A Calciomercato analysis indicates that Atalanta will dig their heels in during the summer in terms of losing their key players.

While they are seeking north of £50m for his midfield teammate, Teun Koopmeiners, it is alleged they want at least £42m for Ederson.
Of course, Newcastle is on the line with PSR and FFP, hence that is a large amount for them to pay out.
Naturally, if Bruno Guimaraes goes, there will be money to spend and the transaction becomes more possible for the Toon suddenly.
Eddie Howe, however, is definitely eager to match Guimaraes with Ederson instead of having him cover.
Ederson, who shined in enabling Atalanta to win the Europa League, also interests Tottenham.
Although Newcastle has spent money since the PIF acquisition, they are significantly more frugal than we have seen from other teams.
The key to the matter, however, is Newcastle will ultimately have to make these large acquisitions if it is to reach the top sides.
Newcastle will have to act moving ahead in line with the likes of City, Arsenal and even Liverpool going out and spending large on elite players.
They have thus so far performed very well on Alexander Isak, Sven Botman, and more. But considering the “sensational” season Ederson has just had, he may be worth it if we advance. At £42m.
