£21M Tottenham man needs to be the first player Postecoglou sells this summer

Ange Postecoglou will be considering a lot of options in the lead-up to the summer, since Tottenham Hotspur has been without a game for the last two weeks.

The rapid pace of Postecoglou’s expansion in North London has somewhat slowed down, and the long-term project’s realities are starting to become apparent.

That’s not to say there’s no cause for hope; Postecoglou still appears like the ideal manager to take Spurs back to their heyday.

Even if at first it seemed to be the case, it won’t happen instantly.

And with Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers, coupled with a lacklustre performance in February, it’s certain that the next summer will be crucial.

Since Postecoglou has been on the field, the Tottenham manager must be unwavering in his beliefs even if it is still very early in his squad-rebuild.

In light of that, one or two Spurs players—regardless of how well they have performed as team members—will need to go.

Maybe Emerson Royal ought to be the first player out the door at this point.

After the summer, Ange Postecoglou shouldn’t need Emerson Royal at Tottenham.

It was said that Spurs had turned down a £21 million offer from Saudi Arabia for Royal before the January deadline.

The Brazilian was content to remain at Tottenham, and Postecoglou would still need him until the summer, at the latest.

However, it was evident from his Saturday start against Wolves that Royal is now only a square peg in a round hole.

Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are two full-backs who Postecoglou demands to play such a special position.

Even though Ben Davies and Royal are both excellent defenders—as they demonstrated last weekend—they are not appropriate for the team’s long-term goals.

Royal is a valuable member of the team, but he shouldn’t just be kept on hand to fill in at centre back.

Actually, this summer Postecoglou has to bring in an inverted expert for Tottenham—possibly for either side of his defence.

And Spurs ought to accept such a deal if it came up again, considering the interest Royal showed in January.
