Agreement until 2025 is done – Romano shares big Tottenham news after Werner and Dragusin deal

Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier seems poised for a permanent departure from Hotspur Way this January, having reached an agreement with Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old could potentially make the move to the Bundesliga giants for a fee less than £4.3m during the 2024 winter transfer window. Spurs might be inclined to the sale to avoid losing Dier for free in the summer, possibly utilizing the funds to reinforce their squad for Champions League qualification.

The possibility of Eric Dier’s departure has been confirmed, with Bayern Munich being the destination as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive update provided to GIVEMESPORT. Ange Postecoglou, the Spurs head coach, has been reluctant to feature the versatile centre-back in the 2023/24 campaign, hinting at a potential move during this winter transfer window.

Despite Tottenham’s promising start this season, aiming for Champions League qualification, they may need to part ways with experienced players to bolster the squad. With Dier’s contract set to expire in six months, his tenure at Tottenham appears to be concluding under Postecoglou, who has marginalized the 29-year-old, primarily deploying him during injury crises.

Tottenham’s recent acquisition of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s commendable form have diminished Dier’s prominence in the squad.

Nevertheless, there’s hope for Dier to continue his career at the top level, as per journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reported a verbal agreement between Dier and Bayern Munich for a contract extending until the summer of 2025, involving a transfer fee below €5m (£4.3m).

Signs indicating Dier’s exit have been apparent for some time now. Notably, journalist Paul Brown highlighted Dier’s limited involvement in the Premier League and his surprise absence from key games.

Romano further emphasized Bayern Munich’s key role in deciding whether to activate the deal with Tottenham, offering insights into Tuchel’s interest in the defender since the previous summer transfer window.

In addition to the potential departure of Dier, Tottenham is actively pursuing a deal for Genoa center-back Radu Dragusin. Spurs have submitted an offer of €25m (£21.5m) with an additional €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for Dragusin, with Djed Spence potentially joining the Italian club on loan until the season’s end. However, Bayern’s intervention in the Dragusin saga has added complexity, as they aim to disrupt Tottenham’s previously agreed terms with the player.

Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures include a Premier League clash against Manchester United on January 14, aiming to build upon their prior success against the same opponent. Additionally, Spurs are set to encounter Manchester City in the FA Cup Fourth Round before concluding January with a match against Brentford.
